Long Way Down

Sixth Session
12/17/16

<meta />

  • We’ve come back upstairs, all in a bad mood. Ellanna is annoyed about the stairs.

  • Larken doesn’t stop walking, she fucks off immediately.

  • As Imira is leaving, the Warden tells her to bring the documents to Molly.

  • Finch goes to the door and disappears.

  • The Warden tells Ellanna “walk and talk.” Parill is abandoned.

  • The creeper also fucks off.

  • Assara stops Yannis, tells her the demon stuff wasn’t her fault. They catch up a bit

  • Go back out into the hall, Yannis sees Harrett. She drags Assara back into the room, tells her that Harrett is her sister. Tells her all the stuff that led to Yannis getting disowned.

  • Assara is pissed at Yannis’s father and sister.

  • Yannis goes to confront Harrett.

———————————————————————————————————-

  • Meanwhile, Molly and a fat black cat are in the documents room when Imira walks in. Imira says hi and Molly jumps to attention, surprised. She perks up.

  • Oh hello! Are you here to help?

  • I brought gifts, holds out the papers

  • Sparkly-eyed and delighted, takes the documents, spreads them out on the table. What are these, where’re they from? What was done with them, did you reorganize them?

  • Imira tells everything she knows.

  • Molly is organizing the documents, achieving things.

  • Imira tells about the defense system. There was a cure, but it’s lost now.

  • Molly has an ah-ha moment. Looks at the other documents. That makes sense. Something was supposed to be sent out and wasn’t.

  • Points at burned up pile in the corner, that’s what this is. From what she can tell, research that was used to study the Blight is spread all over the tower. Most of the important stuff is here. This is what they learned about the Blight, here’s their research process. The stuff at the end is what’s missing.

  • Up to this point, it looked like they’d found a cure, that they’d studied extensively.

  • Shit, the thing that they would burn is that they started human trials. That’s the last piece missing in their research method. It probably didn’t go so well, that’s why word didn’t get to Weisshaupt.

  • Molly sits on the floor, pouting. Imira sits down too, pats her back, we’ll figure it out

  • Molly’s shaking her head, it’s all here, something must have gone wrong.

  • She’s kind of mad that the stuff was destroyed. Must have thought it was dangerous enough that people shouldn’t find it. But how are we supposed to know what went wrong?

  • Very against the destruction of research.

  • We have to start from scratch and we won’t know what to avoid.

  • Imira’s like, well….yep.

  • Molly sighs and drags herself up off the floor. Asks Imira what languages she can read. Just Common.

  • She starts sifting through papers, gives a pile to Imira. Read this, tells me what this says.

  • We’re going to be buds now, for the next sixteen hours or so.

  • Imira’s like okay…probably wasn’t going to sleep anyway.

  • Molly gives her tea and pulls up a shitty chair for her. The nicest of the shitty chairs. Imira wants the nice shitty chair to go to Molly.

  • Once Imira is settling down to start reading, Molly pulls out a jar that looks familiar. Full of pinkish-purple something. Pops the lid open. Pulls more stuff out. Spreads the stuff on bread and starts eating it.

  • Imira’s like, your name is Molly right?

  • Molly, with her mouth full, uh-huh.

  • Toast? Offers a slice

  • Imira takes it.

  • It’s really delicious. Exceptionally tasty jelly.

  • Imira asks if there’s anyone named Jenny in the group. Molly blinks at her, no? Where’d you hear that name?

  • I read it

  • Read it? Holds up the papers

  • No no, not in this. It’s not important, it’s just going to bother me forever.

  • Imira goes back to reading her papers.

  • A little bit later, Imira asks where she got the jam. She got it from a friend, expensive jam from Orlais. Molly doesn’t know how they would’ve gotten it.

  • Imira goes back to reading. An hour passes.

  • There’s a knock on the door and Finch pokes his head in. He has a big plate of food and a fresh pot of tea. No longer dressed like a battle babe.

  • Molly is so absorbed, he makes it into the room without her notices. Wafts tea steam in her direction to get her attention. She reaches for the cup and he pulls it back and tells her to go to bed.

  • Bu-

  • No. You’re less brilliant when you’re tired, go to bed.

  • Takes her book, go to bed.

  • Eventually he convinces her to bed down.

  • Finch offers Imira the plate of food and the rest of the tea, apologizes for leaving her in there for so long.

  • Imira takes it. It’s okay, she’s really nice.

  • She is, but has no concept of the passage of time.

  • It wasn’t a problem.

  • I went up and down those stairs too, you must be exhausted.

  • I’m fine.

  • Finch thinks, Alright, she’s one of those.

  • Tells Imira that her horse and stuff are all upstairs.

  • You’re welcome to keep working, but you should get some sleep. Meeting first thing tomorrow morning.

  • Imira push the documents away, no no, I’m done here.

  • I have to go check on my horse and sleep eventually.

  • Alright.

  • She thanks him again for the food and the tea

  • It’s kind of my job.

  • Imira goes upstairs to the horses. Checks if her horse is too warm. All the horses have been taken very good care of. He’s doing just fine.

  • Goes to check her bags. The contraband that she smuggled is no longer there. In its place is a note and three red ribbons. Imira is even more confused. She leaves the stuff there and talks to her horse for a while. Tries not to be bothered by what she doesn’t know.

  • Imira stays up all night.

————————————————————————————

  • Meanwhile, some several hours ago, Larken has fucked off upstairs. First level of the building has been transformed, as if a mage put up segments of wall. All the animals have been moved in.

  • Cooper is leaning against the wall at the top of the stairs. Listening down the stairs. Voices can be heard from downstairs. Larken almost bumps into him.

  • Cooper silently hands Larken the bottle of whiskey he had. She takes it automatically.

  • Larken gives a silent salute to Cooper, he nods. Takes several swigs of whiskey.

  • Cooper takes out a cigarette. Do you mind?

  • Larken takes out a pipe, I don’t mind at all.

  • Cooper offers her a light and she accepts it.

  • They smoke together while Larken drinks. After a few minutes of silence, Fuck this place amirite?

  • You have no idea.

  • Grunts, you’re right, I don’t want to know.

  • Larken pets one of the nearby dogs. Once she’s a little tipsy, she’s very softly like “puppy.”

  • Dead-eyed stare still. But cute voice.

  • Cooper introduces Larken to all the dogs, telling all the names and who belongs to who. Larken says “it’s nice to meet you,” to each one and shakes their paws.

  • Cooper greatly approves.

  • Larken feels a tiny bit better. Eventually Cooper tells her that the Warden said if you’re going to sleep up here, no fires outside the tower. Fires inside the tower should be small. Be back for breakfast.

  • Larken appreciates him telling her the rules. Holds up the whiskey bottle, I’ve got breakfast it’s fine.

  • No the warden wants to talk to everyone.

  • Ugh.

  • She goes get her camping gear and goes camping without a fire. Larken goes to her horse, starts petting it, “baby, it’s a baby.”

  • She goes out into the forest. She starts playing chess with herself. Always winning, always losing.

  • After an hour or two, Assara shows up. She’s carrying the field-dressed remains of a deer.

  • Larken calls out a greeting. Assara stops and looks up, sees Larken, and waves.

  • Larken waves her empty whiskey bottle.

  • Assara comes up to her, looks around. How many of you are sleeping out here tonight?

  • Hopefully just me.

  • Nods, I’m pretty sure Cooper’s staying up here with the dogs.

  • Larkens nods too, that sounds about right.

  • Cooper knows you’re out here right?

  • He did watch me walk away with his whiskey bottle

  • He has more

  • I figured.

  • Assara nods. Holds up the deer parts, I should probably put these down somewhere.

  • Do you need any help with that?

  • Nah, I’m alright. Have you eaten?

  • I had a bottle of whiskey.

  • You should probably eat something.

  • Good idea.

  • Assara leads Larken back inside, or at least back to the tower.

  • Cooper has more whiskey. There are lots of dogs.

  • Between the three of them, they hack up the deer and chuck it on the fire. Fairly nice meal.

  • Eventually, Cooper and all the dogs go out on patrol. Larken waves goodbye.

  • Cooper salutes and gives her the last of his whiskey.

  • Larken looks less angry.

  • Eventually, Assara says she has to head inside and make her reports. She’ll come get Larken in the morning if she’s not there. Try to get some sleep.

  • Larken nods.

  • Before Assara is totally gone, Larken calls her back with a “hey.”

  • Do you want to play chess in the woods sometime?

  • Assara cocks her head, sure?

  • Goodnight.

  • Assara nods and goes downstairs.

———————————————————————————————————————-

  • Meanwhile, as they’re walking and talking, the Warden pulls Ellanna aside into a room that is much cleaner than the last time she saw it.

  • How close am I to a mutiny?

  • I mean, I’m not going to do anything. I can’t speak for everyone else.

  • Encouraging, good.

  • Rubs her head like she has a headache.

  • How bad is morale right now?

  • Everyone is tired and traumatized and needs a little space. I think it’ll settle down.

  • Warden nods along. Yeah, I’m not going to make anyone go anywhere back down there for a while.

  • The last time she was here, things were not this bad. Something must have happened to destabilize what you shut down. Already the tower seems to be getting better.

  • We need to focus on making this place livable. That needs to be our first goal.

  • Ellanna says alright

  • Do you have any suggestions to make this place less shitty?

  • Sarcastically, I dunno, it could use some flowers.

  • The warden sputters out a laugh.

  • Honestly, we should get all the rotten stuff out, clean out the pools of water, the larder was lit on fire.

  • Sighs, yeah I saw. Do I want to know?

  • Rats. Rats happened, and Yannis fought them. A fire happened.

  • Say no more.

  • They’ve already done their best to start clearing out the corpses.

  • That’ll probably help the smell.

  • Weirdly, I think the Dalish elf…one of the Dalish elves tagged along with the caravan. Seems to be going around clearing out the place, doing a damn good job of it.

  • That’s good to hear. I’m not sure how easy it’ll be for me to sleep down here.

  • It’s something the warden is used to, forgets that not everyone is.

  • Ellanna's used to horrible underground terrain.

  • One of the other priorities is getting a place for everyone to sleep. But you don’t have to stay down here tonight. Tells Ellanna the rules.

  • Ellanna isn’t planning on going far, just needs some air.

  • The horses are upstairs, they’ve been taken care of. If you want to ride, you can.

  • That’s fantastic news.

  • Gestures at the door, you can go, won’t keep you from your horse.

  • Thanks commander, Ellanna leaves.

  • The remains of a fire are upstairs, some birds in cages, Ellanna’s horse and other horses.

  • Ellanna goes to her horse, unties it, and gets on. No saddle, just rides off.

  • She’s riding through the woods, it’s a beautiful evening, getting dark. Paying attention to where she’s going so she doesn’t get lost. Waves at Larken’s tent, Larken salutes.

  • Ellanna sees movement in the trees around her. She stops her horse. She still has a sword, though she took off all her armor.

  • Once she stops and looks around, she can see that there are several large dogs. She takes her hand off her sword. They’re surrounding her. They don’t look hostile, but also not super friendly.

  • She recognizes one or two of them. Slowly closing in.

  • Before they get uncomfortably close, there’s a sharp whistle. All the dogs immediately sit and stand down. Cooper comes wandering out of the trees.

  • He’s in full armor, carrying an axe in each hand. When he sees her, he quirks his head. What’re you doing out here?

  • I needed to be outside.

  • He nods, he gets that. Must have missed you on your way out. Sorry about, gestures to the dogs.

  • They’re just doing their job.

  • She’s a kicker.

  • He calls the dogs away from the horse.

  • I knew that we needed more time for introductions. The dogs should’ve been able to recognize your horse.

  • The warden has him out making sure they weren’t being followed.

  • It’s fine.

  • That’s why I didn’t leave them out alone, just in case. Trying to get them used to the area.

  • Hey, if you’re out anyway, want to join me?

  • Sure.

  • He points around, here’s where we’ve been, here’s what to look out for.

  • Can you whistle?

  • Yeah.

  • If you see anything, whistle. We’re going to get the dogs used to your mare so they don’t die.

  • As long as you don’t go at a full gallop, I should be able to keep up with you. Whistles for the dogs and starts running. She follows him.

  • He and the dogs are pacing her horse. Ellanna whoops a little bit. Having a good time.

  • Cooper laughs and whoops too. All the dogs start howling.

  • They run around in the woods until it gets super dark. Moonlight and nice stars, but it’s pretty clear at a certain point that Cooper is just following the dogs.

  • Head back after an exhilarating run.

  • By the time they get back, the dogs are panting and tired. Cooper is doing okay. A little winded, but not “I’ve been running at horse-speed for an evening.”

  • Ellanna is impressed.

  • Ellanna tends to her horse. Cooper feeds and waters the dogs.

  • Ellanna is talking to her horse. When Cooper hears, he gives her an account of all he’s done to take care of the horse. Ellanna greatly approves.

  • That was fun

  • That was fun.

  • If you have free time, I know you’re going to be busy, but maybe you could help me exercise the horses sometimes?

  • That would be easily doable, I don’t sleep much.

  • Cooper admits that he’s here to take care of all the animals, but he’s not much good at riding horses.

  • Ellanna says she’ll teach him how to lunge.

  • Cooper says, “eh?”

  • She explains it.

  • Yeah that’s what he does, but he’s pretty sure they’d prefer to actually be out.

  • Yeah, my horse bites.

  • She deserves better than that.

  • Cooper says, anytime you want to ride a horse, I’m easy to find, I’ll be up here.

  • I always want to ride a horse.

  • You’re welcome to it, if you don’t mind riding in the dark.

  • They have eyes, they can see.

  • He introduces Ellanna to all the horses, going down the line.

  • Ellanna takes out another horse, Cooper wishes her well. Keep an eye out. If there’s anyone strange out there, kick their asses.

  • She’s more than capable.

———————————————————————————————-

  • Meanwhile, everyone has abandoned Parill. Most of the people around her are working, but no one’s given her an assignment. Cheerful noises and loud talking coming from the bar. Parill goes to the bar.

  • Someone gave to Corinne alcohol. She says heyyyy to Parill.

  • Parill says hello, cheerfully. Remy waves, Lorenzo is chilling in the corner. Lorenzo is pretty done with Corinne being here. He’s here for the alcohol, and so he doesn’t have to do work. Trying to be inconspicuous.

  • Remy is sitting at the bar. Stands up and holds his arms out to Parill. Greets her like his long-lost best friend. He’s a little bit drunk. It’s so good to see you, you made it back, have a drink with us!

  • Corinne is pouring her alcohol.

  • Parill is friendly, but who are you

  • Remy goes to kiss her hand, tells his name and lists all his titles.

  • That’s nice, I’m Parill, I’m a necromancer.

  • Corinne is into it.

  • Parill asks for a little umbrella in her drink and Corinne provides. Parill takes four of them. Starts sipping it like tea.

  • Remy doesn’t seems shocked or horrified, is interested. Leans closer, asks for her to take him about herself.

  • Oh okay, let me tell you about my day. Starts talking about the weird-ass monsters, how she sicked a bunch of ghosts on a guy, made at least two pinatas. Remy is a little bit horrified, still nodding along.

  • Parill is sipping her drink as she talks. So that’s what I’ve been up to, how about you?

  • Someone set the storeroom on fire, so I can’t unpack anything. I’ve been here with my new friend Corinne. Many fewer abominations and pinatas.

  • Corinne started off leaning across, boobs on the counter, sultry gaze. As Parill keeps going, she backs away looking horrified, zips her shirt up. I should go check on my Templar. Doesn’t actually go, that would be dangerous.

  • Corinne asks about Larken. Where’d she go?

  • Parill has no idea, everyone left me, I can’t imagine why though.

  • Corinne leans forward again, all sulty, I can’t imagine either. Remy and Lorenzo agree. Who’s being sarcastic? Who knows?

  • Rhonan shows up. As soon as Corinne sees him, she tackles him and starts making out with him.

  • Parill lifts her drink off the bar so it doesn’t spill. Remy ignores it.

  • Lorenzo turns away, studies the wall.

  • Corinne asks Lorenzo to join them. Lorenzo goes and starts making drinks. Pours a straight glass of vodka, asks Remy if he wants ice.

  • Remy says sure.

  • Puts ice in Remy’s glass, starts drinking out of the rest of the bottle.

  • Remy didn’t plan on bringing out the alcohol, but it was worth unloading it, I think. Morale and such.

  • Parill says, their morale seems great.

  • Corinne asks Parill to join them. Tells Remy to go to bed.

  • Parill says her heart already belongs to someone else.

  • They don’t ask who. This isn’t about hearts, this is about butts. Get yours into this pile.

  • Seris pokes their head into the room, knocks on the doorframe. Remy starts giving his glowing greeting, but Seris is just “No.”

  • Waves at Parill, are you the necromancer?

  • Yes I am!

  • Seris asks her to come with her.

  • Yeah, let’s go! Right now, where are we going?

  • Lorenzo whispers, take me with you.

  • Remy says he’ll take Lorenzo wherever he wants to go.

  • Corinne is heartbroken.

  • Lorenzo and Remy fuck off together.

  • Remy is pretty sure this is the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

  • Corinne says she called dibs. Remy sticks his tongue out.

  • I’ll get you for this!

—————————————————————————————————

  • Seris asks Parill if she was the one that decomposed the giant pile of bodies that was in this room. She was.

  • The reason that this place is so damaged and unstable is because there was so much death here, the bodies that are still here are attracting the spirits of the dead. They want Parill’s help to go around and decompose all the bodies they can find. Try to release the spirits and put all the dead to rest.

  • Parill would love to. Seris leads Parill back upstairs to a familiar shitty room. Less shitty than before. The warden took care of everything that had been left. Some went through and did a rough clean-up job. There are lots and lots of corpses in this one room.

  • Seris thinks that once they get rid of all these corpses, whatever is pushing against the Veil and trying to get through will stop and be at peace. They don’t have as much experience with the spirits of the dead. Can Parill show them the thing that she does.

  • Parill performs her decomposition ritual. Seris says that the decomposed bones will be very nutrient-rich. Parill suggests building a garden, and Seris is into it.

  • The team herbalist is someone who was formerly from their clan. She might find this useful.

  • Parill recognizes Seris as a Dalish elf.

  • They finish and the room is very dusty. Seris leads Parill back downstairs.

  • They hesitantly ask if Parill wants to see the results of what we just did.

  • Parill says yes.

  • Upstairs, when they were done, it felt less creepy.

  • Seris says they can help Parill enter the Fade while she’s sleeping, control her dreams better. If you’re willing. They have magic tea.

  • Seris brews up a pot of tea, loosely talks Parill through the mix of herbs. Nothing too weird, no magic drugs. Just seems like herbal tea.

  • But as soon as Parill drinks a glass, she gets really sleepy. They chill out in a pile of pillows and the next thing they know, they’re in the Fade.

  • Back outside the tower like in her dream before. The spirits that had crowded there before are slowly dissipating. The tower itself looks wildly different. Before dark and eerie, now like pre-dawn. Not hundreds of spirits shuffling around like before.

  • Seris is there with Parill, but when she looks at Seris, they’re surrounded in a halo of spirits, like armor, wisps pressing close.

  • Parill asks them about it. Seris says they’ve spent a lot of time in the Fade, getting to know the spirits here. Once you know the spirits well enough, you can call upon them to protect you.

  • Parill thinks that’s cool

  • Seris offers to teach her.

  • Parill says hell yeah.

  • It’s a process. The more time you spend in the Fade, the more spirits will be drawn to you. Like making friends. Seris can introduce Parill around.

  • This place is dangerous, you all will be in danger. If this can help, Seris is willing to take the time to teach her.

  • Parill spends all night in this waking dream, getting introduces around to vaguely-formless, but nice spirit friends.

  • When she wakes up, it’s the next morning.

—————————————————————————————————

  • Next morning, Corinne and Rhonan are done having sex, Seris drenched them with water until they separated and left.

  • The Warden gets us all together in the bar.

  • The Warden says we need to sit down and discuss how we’re going to fix this place up and make this place livable. There are certain things you need to get set up to keep the expedition supplied.

  • Evangeline needs a decent alchemy. She’s also a researcher for the cure.

  • Cooper humbly requests a better stable. We need to find a way to get the horses in and out of the second floor easily. Ravens and falcons and dogs too. Once there’s a decent kennel, we could make puppies.

  • Finch not-so-politely says if we want real food, he needs a real kitchen up and running.

  • Kari needs a greenhouse. Right now, she can go into the wilderness and pick flowers, but she can get better, rarer, and more potent herbs if she can grow them herself.

  • Molly is in the corner reading. There’s a library and I need you to find it, she demands.

  • The Warden says there’s tons of information in here, any of it helps. Possibly we can find maps and info about the cure. Have to find it.

  • Remy says he’d like to unpack the supplies, but the storeroom caught fire and we need to do something about that.

  • Zady says we need an elevator. The Warden tells her not to call it that. Zady says whatever, we need one.

  • Zenna comes in, says that’s stupid, considerations have to be made. Zady says she’s never walking the stairs again, she wants a lift.

  • Zenna’s complaint is that they don’t know what they’ll find while digging downwards. The tower isn’t a perfect cylinder, there’s branching paths.

  • Harrett needs a forge for arms and armor. She has her own equipment, but not a forge. There is one in here somewhere.

  • Until a lab is set up for Rhonan, he’s going to have a lot of free time on his hands.

  • Yannis suggests Seris could wash out the storeroom with magic water.

  • The room is also structurally unsound, so Zady needs to work on it. Zady will instruct Imira how to patch the walls.

  • The Wardens are going to go into the Deep Roads first, clear the way. We go after, figure out how to get through. We need to go into the weird winding tunnels and find not a dead end.

  • We consider finding a kitchen, but opt to make a greenhouse first. We think we want a kennel next.

  • We decide to build a ramp on the first floor down, for the horses. Imira can move earth with magic. Zenna can help too. Astrid will have to acclimate the birds to being underground. Cooper can help advise.

  • Remy, Rhonan, Lorenzo, and Finch are going to look for the greenhouse.

  • The Warden, Carver, and Nathaniel are going into the Deep Roads

  • Zady, Seris, and Creeper are working on the storeroom.

  • Evangeline and Corinne are working together.

  • Molly is reading

  • Assara is scouting, Kari is gathering herbs.

  • Cooper, Harrett, Astrid, Imira, and Zenna are making the kennels.

  • Yannis, Larken, Parill, and Ellanna will be going into the Deep Roads. Imira will come after her magic has been of use with the kennels.

—————————————————————————————-

  • Once the meeting breaks up, the Warden pulls Corinne aside. You’re a terrible liar and you need to get better at it. Talk to Evangeline and ask for a mask. You have to wear the mask and be the mask. Evangeline will say when you pass and get a new mask.

  • Corinne goes to Evangeline. Hey wassup? She stiffens a bit. Then, oh the Warden sent you.

  • Corinne has her boobs on the table.

  • Evangeline, internally, “Fereldens.” Corinne winks.

  • Evangeline finds a chest and puts it on the table and opens. It’s full of masks, full and half, all kinds.

  • She briefly explains bards to Corinne. Bards are on the outside musicians and performers. Secretly spies and assassins. Weasel their way into people’s confidences by being social and entertaining. Everyone in Orlais wears masks all the time, the mask is who you are. You need to learn to become someone other than who you are and get into the habit of that.

  • Corinne picks a white and blue mask.

  • We’re in the bottom of the mage tower, blood and chained up people.

  • As soon as we walk in, the blood springs to life, forming terrible barriers around three of the altars.

  • Imira casts Rock Armor on herself

  • Imira casts Heroic Offense on Larken

  • Parill casts Spirit Mark on one of the people chained to an altar.

  • Yannis charges forward and hits one of the chained horrors with her maul.

  • Imira can tell there is something weird about the chains, but there’s so much raw magic, she’d have to get closer. She has a feeling that everything that’s happening is being channeled through the person in the middle.

  • Ellanna charges one of the chained horrors in a blood bubble. The bubble resists, but she cuts through it. Some of the blood splashes on her and cuts her. But she definitely hit it, and hurt it.

  • This has been one of the worst days of Larken’s life. She charges over to help Ellanna, swinging and damaging the horror. She gets cut too, and the horror pulls some of the blood back in, healing it somewhat.

  • The horror by Yannis somehow produces a longsword and swings at her, but it misses.

  • The horror plagued by spirits tries to resist the spell, but fails barely.

  • The horror being attacked by Ellanna and Larken lashes out at them with magic. Their blood begins to boil in their bodies. Larken resists it, but Ellanna is somewhat incapacitated.

  • The horror not being attacked throws an arcane lance at Yannis, grazing her.

  • Imira moves forward and examines one of the chains.

  • Magic is flowing through them, it feels similar to the magical doorway she opened before. She can feel the chains go all over the place, hard to tell where they end or where they’re going, but it extends beyond this room.

  • Parill takes a few steps forward and casts Weakness on the horror fighting Yannis, but he resists it.

  • Yannis whomps her target twice, and as he falls with a horrifying scream, Yannis also falls to the ground, unconscious.

  • Ellanna puts her guard up.

  • Larken swings at her target, but the resistance of the blood bubble stops her sword before she can connect.

  • The horror plagued by spirits finally beats them off. He’s not looking so good.

  • The horror fighting Larken throws an arcane bolt at Larken, but it bounces off her shield.

  • The horror in the corner attempts to do the same thing, but it also bounces off Larken’s shield.

  • To Imira, holding the chain, Yannis feels like she’s linked to the magic now. She suggests out loud that someone should try to break the chains.

  • Imira also casts Rejuvenate on Larken, healing her some. She splits the spell so it affects Ellanna too. She shuffles closer to Yannis.

  • Parill casts Paralyze on the horror she had previously been bothering with spirits. He’s paralyzed for the rest of the encounter.

  • Yannis is still unconscious.

  • Ellanna attacks her target, cutting through the bubble and killing it. She also falls unconscious.

  • Larken swings at the chains and a ringing noise goes through the whole room. The chain flashes a familiar shade of blue and don’t break.  Seems like they’re made of lyrium.

  • Larken can tell that her friends do not seem harmed, merely peacefully asleep.

  • The chained horror in the corner throws an arcane bolt at Larken cause she’s trying to break the chains. It bounces off her shield.

  • Imira examines Yannis. This effect seems like some sort of defense mechanism. She also looks around for a keyhole, doesn’t find one.

  • Parill tries to cast Paralyze again, but fails.

  • Yannis and Ellanna feel like they’re starting to wake up.

  • Larken cuts off the dead mage’s hand. The chain comes to life and wraps around her wrist instead. Larken falls unconscious. As she falls, she glares at Imira.

  • Imira stares at Parill with a terrified expression. She goes to one of the fires on the wall. It is also connected to the magic. It seems like sort of a place marker. The pedestals are place markers too. She gets the sense that it might be a closed circuit, some kind of network or web.

  • Imira mentions all this to Parill. Parill comes over and casts Decompose on the fire brazier. As soon as it goes out, Parill falls unconscious.

  • Imira looks through the bookshelves while Parill is casting the spell, but she can’t see through her tears.

  • Larken is starting to wake up too.

  • Yannis and Ellanna wake up in a stone room they don’t recognize. They feel normal and Yannis has her maul.

  • Imira keeps looking, the notes are really old and extensive. Around the base of the tower, a force field was constructed  with lyrium. Some of the bright spots she felt were runes. Designed to keep things from coming into the tower. Magical version of an electric fence, temporary.

  • Notes on the notes are calculations trying to figure out how to amplify the power of the force field, perhaps with blood magic.

  • Imira takes a deep breath and runs to one of the other other braziers. The remaining horror throws an arcane bolt as she passes, doing some damage.

  • Imira sees a table with a series of maps detailing the bottom-most level of the tower and the area beyond it. Cave system going down into the deep roads. One of the maps is newer, one is older, both very old. The older one has markings that make it look like a mining cave. The newer one has symbols approximately in the shape of the force field around the base of the tower.

  • Imira gets the sense that Parill has taken the place of the brazier, continuing the circuit.

  • Imira runs to the next brazier, taking some damage as she runs through the main room.

  • In this room, she find the personal journal of the Warden-Commander Felicia d’Avila. The last few entries are her realizing a Blight is about to start, scouting parties of darkspawn have been trying to get into the tower. The wardens have been fortifying the defences. Not just an isolated thing. She believes it’s her duty to keep the entrance to the deep roads sealed. She and four of her companions sacrificed themselves to keep it going.

  • Blood magic and time have corrupted this seal over the years.

  • Imira doesn’t know what to do.

  • Imira goes back into the main room and tries to connect to the circuit with blood magic. Nothing happens for a second.

  • As soon as she connects to it, she’s in a different place.

—————————————————————————————

  • Yannis felt like she fell on the floor, and when she got up, she’s in a new place.

  • There’s a brazier she was standing on/in.

  • It kinda feels like the Fade. The ground is covered in bones and carapaces. Dead darkspawn.

  • She looks around a bit, tries to bash through a wall. It doesn’t work, but it rings, and glows blue.

  • She keeps walking, finds a glowing blue orb sitting on a pedestal. She rears back and swings her maul to hit the orb, but as soon as she does, blue lights flash and she disappears.

——————————————————————————————

  • Ellanna wakes up too, starts exploring with her swords drawn. The architecture makes it feel like it’s the same building. She’s grumbling to herself.

  • She comes upon a monster, that hasn’t noticed her. It doesn’t quite look like a darkspawn or a person, been down here for a long time. Chewing on bones.

  • Ellanna turns around and walks away from it. She finds a door and it opens. She keeps walking and finds the orb that Yannis hit.

  • She sheathes one of her swords and reaches out to touch it. The blue lights flash again, and she disappears.

————————————————————————————-

  • Imira wakes up in a strange room, with a floaty blue ghost chained to an altar, chilling.

  • She feels like she went through the chains and appeared here. The ghost rattles like it’s waking up.

  • She doesn’t talk for a while. A quiet voice, rusty with disuse, asks if she’s come to take her turn. In what? In the chain.

  • Imira tells it that the Blight is over and it can stop.

  • It doesn’t understand, there was no Blight. It’s only been a few days, did they break through?

  • Imira says that it’s been 400 years.

  • It stops and asks what year it is. She tells it, 940~.

  • No no, it’s 307, what’re you talking about.

  • To Imira, it doesn’t feel like the Fade, but it’s similar. An unreality that’s similar, but not the same.

  • She gives the ghost a history lesson. The chain is corrupted, power flowing through it that shouldn’t be there.

  • The ghost starts explaining technicalities, then stops. 600 years ago, mages here were made tranquil and forced to mine lyrium. Darkspawn kept attacking them, so they used lyrium to make something to defend them. A forcefield to push things back. Each of them took turns being part of the chain. Got to be in touch with their magic again, so it’s worth it.

  • It’s felt like a moment to him. When the weird feeling started, the darkspawn started being pulled rather than repelled.

  • Imira asks where it’s coming from, the ghost point in the direction of where the orb is beyond the walls.

  • He doesn’t know if he’s stuck here, or what would happen if he unlinked himself from the chain. Doesn’t want to know.

  • Imira says she’ll try to fix it but she has to go answer the door now.

———————————————————————————————

  • Parill wakes up in a weird room. She decomposed a braiser and now she’s standing in front of another one. It’s cracked, and Parill takes it as a sign that she should not decompose more braisers in the future.

  • She trudges through a pile of dead darkspawn. She finds a door, but it doesn’t open. She goes the other way.

  • She finds another door. It doesn’t open, so she knocks.

  • Imira hears someone knocking. She opens the door and finds Parill.

  • Parill’s happy to see her. They go exploring together, and Imira tells Parill about the ghost guy.

  • They find a monster, but turn around and leave.

  • They find another door and Parill knocks. There’s no answer, but when Parill tries the door, it opens.

  • They go back to explore further first. They find another monster and turn back.

  • Eventually they find the blue orb. It’s a link in the barrier, a rune. More powerful than the other ones. To Imira, it has the same feeling of being the source of things as the center horrifying monster in the other room did. Connecting with it will bring her closer to the real source.

  • Imira tells Parill. Parill trust her with a question mark.

  • Imira reaches for the orb and disappears. Parill follows suit.

—————————————————————————————————-

  • Larken wakes up in a strange room, the floor covered in dead darkspawn. She tries a door and it’s locked. She finds another door and it opens.

  • She doesn’t wants to fight with the monsters or talk to the ghost, so eventually she makes her way to the orb.

  • Larken runs her hands down her face and sighs, puts her hand on the orb, and wishes for death. She winks out of existence.

———————————————————————————-

  • Meanwhile, the level-1 characters have arrived at the tower that’s not a tower. See the Warden, Carver, and the creepy guy.

  • They were kinda expecting they’d be ready to move in when they got here, but the A team is gone and everyone looks stressed.

  • Corinne rushes in and asks where her girl is at. They haven't come back yet.

  • Corinne is very upset, starts yelling profanities. Mentions the Carta, quickly retracts it when the Warden asks.

  • Assara comes in and starts ranting too, but the Warden cuts her off. How did they find Corinne?

  • Corinne doesn’t know. Nathaniel gestures broadly at Corinne and she winks.

  • They don’t know what happened to the A Team.

———————————————————————————————

  • For a second, everything is dark for Yannis. She gets a feeling like there’s an open space in front of her, like the Warden’s tent, a mess. Like a backdrop, disjointed and weird.

  • By the desk, that has a map, half-eaten food, a bottle of wine..a woman is pacing behind the table.

  • Feels like Yannis is walking into a war tent. The woman is pacing and intently reading a letter.

  • Yannis says hello. The woman snaps to attention and demands Yannis’s report.

  • Yannis says “blood magic”

  • Excuse me, Warden?

  • Yannis says she’s not a Warden.

  • At some point, they high-five.

  • Yannis gives the woman a disjointed summary of what brought her here. The woman asks Yannis to help her fight the darkspawn. Holds out her hand to shake.

  • Yannis doesn’t want to disappear again. The woman says she won’t, so Yannis shakes her hand enthusiastically.

——————————————————————————————-

  • Ellanna wakes up. Looks like the inside of a laboratory. There’s a woman standing behind a large desk, grabbing stuff and quickly mixing things together. Clearly really stressed and harried and rushing through something.

  • Ellanna walks over and asks where she is.

  • She asks if Ellanna is the new recruit, a new conscript.

  • Ellanna says no, what?

  • The warden-commander brought you, right? Starts handing Ellanna stuff.

  • We’re so close but we’re running out of time, if we don’t get this done, all our time here is wasted.

  • Ellanna says okay, but i’m not who you think i am.

  • Wait, how did you get here.

  • Ellanna thinks for a bit, I don’t really know.

  • I was fighting this thing and then I wasn’t, then I woke up somewhere else

  • Were you fighting the darkspawn?

  • No. I’m not quite sure how to explain. It wasn’t a darkspawn. Ellanna explains entering the room with the sharp blood. This is beyond her pay grade.

  • This woman has a horrified look on her face. You don’t remember how you got here? I don’t remember how I got here either.

  • The backdrop of the laboratory starts to dissipate. It looks like a tower room.

  • The woman tries to walk over to the wall, but she stops, can’t move.

  • The woman points to the shelf, tells to Ellanna to take those…where? She doesn’t know. You have to save this. We were so close to finding the cure. If it stays here, it’ll die with us.

  • Ellanna goes over to the platform, there’s a massive bookshelf.

  • The woman, quietly, all we wanted was to fix it. Over and over. You have to help us fix it.

  • Ellanna asks what happened here, why can’t you leave?

  • We had to stop the darkspawn, we had no other choice.

  • The woman starts melting down a little bit and Ellanna is uncomfortable.

  • At a certain point, the woman is calm again. We can work together to fix this.

  • You want to save people, right?

  • Yeah that's kinda my job.

  • The woman holds her hand out. Together we can save people.

  • Ellanna doesn’t take her hand. But she says that sounds like a good idea.

—————————————————————————————————

  • Larken wakes up, disappointed that she exists.

  • She sees a weapon supply room. Sees a young looking guy sitting on a crate, sharpening some swords. Familiar to Larken. He’s on bitch duty.

  • She approaches him. He looks up and smiles brightly. Fresh-faced and enthusiastic. Oh hello, are you the new recruit?

  • Larken says it’s been awhile since she’s been a new recruit.

  • He gasps and stands up and knocks some stuff over and salute her.

  • You must have come from Weishaupt right?

  • The Warden place? No.

  • He droops. You’re not the one he sent? We sent a letter for reinforcements. Not you?

  • Larken says no.

  • Then who are you? What’re you doing here?

  • I’m Larken Lavell, I’m a former templar.

  • At that, the guy is scared. He asks what year it is and Larken tells him.

  • It’s not the answer he expected and he’s confused. Wait, did it work?

  • Larken shuffles her feet. I don’t know what you were trying to do, but not.

  • What happened to Antiva?

  • It still exists.

  • Okay, okay. It was a Blight though, right? The commander wasn’t wrong?

  • There was a Blight

  • And it was worth it, right? It helped?

  • Larken cringes.

  • He’s all earnest and sparkly.

  • Larken is silent.

  • I knew it, I knew this was a good idea, I knew this would be important.

  • Larken calmly sits him down and tells him about the mage tower.

  • There was a Blight, whatever they were trying to do didn’t work. They were investigating a mage tower that was destroyed. Tells him about what they found in the bottom floor.

  • The guy says, the warden was right, but she didn’t know this would happen, we didn’t mean for this to happen. But maybe we can still fix it? Right? That’s what Wardens do, right?

  • Larken tells him of course we can fix it.

  • He was all defeated, but he perks up and holds out his hand. She hesitantly clasps his hand.

————————————————————————————-

  • Parill feels like she is wandering through the forests at night and she comes to a clearing. Not like a sound stage. Campfire casting a cheery glow.

  • A guy is sitting up against a tree, playing a cheerful tune on a pan flute. Parill approaches, into the fire light.

  • He stops playing and waves to her. He greets her in Elven when he sees her tattoos. Invites her to come sit by the fire.

  • She declines, she’s looking for her friend who was with her a second ago. She doesn’t see any sign of Imira.

  • Parill realizes this is definitely not a forest, it’s a marble room. When she shakes off the illusion, the elf sighs. Why did you have to do that?

  • Where’s my friend?

  • He calls her da’len. I haven’t seen anyone in hundreds of years.

  • Well you’re not getting out enough.

  • No kidding. He waves his hand and the happy fire comes back. This is nicer, isn’t it?

  • Grass is coming back, he’s rebuilding the illusion. Wouldn’t this be a nicer place to spend eternity?

  • I feel like you’re asking the wrong elf here. I am the Elf of Death.

  • He smiles and laughs. He has the same face tattoos as Parill.

  • Oh hey you have the same tattoos!

  • Why aren’t you spending eternity with [Elf God]

  • Cause I made a promise

  • To who?

  • To a woman who thought she could change the world.

  • How’d that work out for you?

  • Considering you’re here now, I think she might have done it.

  • I don't think she did it very well considering I’m here right now.

  • What happened out there? When is it?

  • Parill tells him 9:41

  • When was the last blight?

  • Ten years ago

  • He’s a little impressed, it lasted longer than I thought it did.

  • Well that’s good, your job is done, you might as well leave

  • I would if I could, I’d have left a long time go

  • Well don’t worry, me and my friends are here and we’re going to investigate this whole tower and this isn’t going to be a weird death vortex anymore.

  • He says, what the warden didn’t understand was that the actual cost isn’t always what you think it is, of magic. Clearly now the land is paying for what they did here. The reason he came here in the first place, really, is he was the Keeper of the clan tasked with watching over this area.

  • When a warden came saying they could fix the tower, he felt obligated to help. He’s wearing the warden armor too

  • There’s nothing they could do. Leave me to my forest, or join me. The illusion is creeping in again.

  • It seems like a nice place to relax, but I got things to do and I’m not dead yet.

  • Parill goes over to some books on the wall. More research, medical books and books about lyrium and scrolls and formulas. Seems like this is part of some kind of laboratory, the work being done here.

  • Parill walks around the corner of the room and finds a book. The guy calls out to her that that’s private.

  • Parill says, he’s dead, what kind of privacy do you have?

  • I’m not dead yet, I’d be with my god

  • Fair enough. She picks it up and opens it. It’s a diary. She sets it down, returns to the main room, and sits down to read the book on lyrium.

———————————————————————————————

  • Imira had fused with the portal a bit, guides herself to the source of the power.

  • There’s a lady there. She felt Imira coming. She was sitting, but when Imira shows up on the steps, she stands up.

  • Ah, someone’s finally come.

  • You were expecting me?

  • Eh, not you. Someone.

  • Did word reach Weisshaupt?

  • Hundreds of years ago.

  • She shakes her head. If it’s been hundreds of years, it must not have made it there.

  • Imira has a sudden memory of a big pile of burned paper. The message, or not the whole message, the intended message was not sent.

  • The blight is over

  • Antiva City?

  • We were there not too long ago.

  • Good, good.

  • It’s 9:40-something

  • How many blights have there been?

  • One

  • Okay. The Wardens still exist, right?

  • Yeah, we came here with one. Well not here but the other place.

  • The lady understands, she can tell what’s going on, is detached from the illusion.

  • Why have you come now, if the Blights are over?

  • We’re trying to find a cure.

  • Fucking-son-of-a-bitch. It should’ve already been over hundreds of years ago. She’s clearly under the impression that whatever they did, they did not just to secure this place, but it was supposed to be delivered to the other wardens.

  • Was it done?

  • Yes, it was.

  • Oh. Well that didn’t happen.

  • Obviously not.

  • Imira shuffles awkwardly. We kinda need to undo the corruption that you did though

  • What corruption? We sealed the entrance, that’s all.

  • Imira tells her about the mage tower.

  • She’s horrified by what Imira is telling her. This was never her intention, this was never supposed to happen like this.

  • Well maybe we can fix it. Do you know how to fix this?

  • She gets thoughtful. She thought people were coming. This is not according to plan. The only way to stop this is you’re going to have to kill me.

  • Imira sits down on the steps and puts her head in her hands.

  • The lady tries to reassure Imira. It’s okay, she knew she was going to die, that she would have to die to fix it. That’s what Wardens do. This is not for the greater good anymore. She thought she could keep the corruption in check. Didn’t expect to have to do it for 500 years.

  • The wards themselves that they’re piggybacking on are totally innocuous and probably a good thing. The source of the problem has to be her.

  • Imira ignores her reassurances and asks where the doors go.

  • The warden lady says it wasn’t just her. It takes more power than she had to keep the ward active for as long as she did. Her best men all had to sacrifice themselves for it to work.

  • What’s going to happen to them?

  • Bitter laugh. You mean my 500 year-old lieutenants?

  • Imira tries to open one of the doors and it opens.

  • This lady is a bummer, Imira is leaving.

  • The next door opens and Imira can see inside, but can’t go inside.

  • What she sees is not what Parill sees.

  • Parill is sitting, reading.

  • At the far end of the room, a stone platform, an elf sitting on it, chained. Parill couldn’t see the chains. Wrapped around him over and over again. Something behind him, chained to him, hand around his throat.

  • Parill can’t hear her when Imira calls out.

  • Imira goes back to the lady. I can’t leave.

  • The lady says, you need to unchain your friends

  • How?

  • You either have to separate her wardens from the things they’re bound to, or you need to kill the things they’re bound to.

  • I can’t get in there

  • Go the same way you got in here.

  • Feeling my way through  it?

  • Yes.

  • Imira links with the chain. Now that she’s here, she sees something and she can follow it into the room. The talismen that was used to open the door upstairs, the elf is wearing one.

  • It’s like a padlock, holding the chains in place.

  • Imira tries her magic key on the forcefield door and she can move through it.

  • Parill sees her and says hello! Imira gives an awkward wave.

  • She takes a step toward the elf, looking at the thing he’s chained to. It’s some kind of demon.

  • When Imira walks closer, the demon holds the elf tighter, pressing its taloned hands into his throat. The elf knows it’s there.

  • When the elf sees the crest in Imira’s hands and nods toward the center room. Did she send you?

  • Kinda. Still staring at the demon.

  • The elf says, it can’t hurt you unless you give it power, but it will kill me.

  • As they’re drawing attention to it, Parill can see the demon.

  • Imira asks if there’s a way to take care of it without it hurting him.

  • You could leave, or you can stay. Only thing you can do is nothing.

  • Gestures to the nice cheerful fire. You can sit and I can play you some music and we can ignore the demon in the room.

  • The more you ignore it, the weaker it gets, and he’s really good at ignoring it.

  • To undo the binding, she has to undo the lock. He’s not going to take it off. Imira starts moving toward him and he lets her. He’s ready.

  • This isn’t your fault, we did what we had to do.

  • She apologizes anyway and he pats her.

  • When she pulls the medallion off, the room is empty, there’s nothing there.

  • She now has two glowy crests.

  • Imira walks away with tears in her eyes, back to the center room.

  • The lady looks sad, she knows. But also intensely focused.

———————————————————————————-

  • They head into the room with Ellanna in it. They can both pass through the doorway.

  • Ellanna is cringing back from the woman. A naked purple demon is behind the woman, with claws on her throat. This one doesn’t seem so in-control.

  • Ellanna relaxes a little, seeing familiar faces. Imira is a little dead inside, but Parill says hi.

  • The woman is wearing the pendant around her neck. While the elf had been ignoring it, this woman’s throat is bloody, she’s been fighting it. She’s being held so tightly that she can’t move.

  • Imira walks toward her. The woman is wide-eyed, panicked. The demon is grinning over her shoulder at her. You don’t want to hurt her.

  • Imira is crying. She whispers that she’s sorry as she’s reaching toward the crest. The demon can’t do anything. Imira pulls the crest off and they both disappear.

  • Imira sits on the floor with her face in her hands, trying not to sob.

  • Ellanna walks over and puts a hand on her shoulder. Whatever you did probably needed to be done. Helps her stand up. We have to keep going

  • Imira nods

  • I have complete faith in you, with her fingers crossed behind her back.

——————————————————————————————

  • They go to Yannis’s room. Yannis is shaking hands with a rage demon. The demon won’t let go.

  • When Yannis realizes what’s happening, she swings her maul at the demon. Does some damage.

  • The demon racks Yannis with her claws and sets her on fire.

  • Imira sees the crest on the hit of the demon’s sword. Gives Yannis a distressed look through her tears.

  • Ellanna charges the demon, doing some damage to it.

  • Parill charges it too. She manages to knock the sword away and the demon disappears.

———————————————————————————————-

  • Go to the last room. Larken has hold of a giant pride demon’s finger.

  • Imira runs up to it and grabs the crest off the demon’s belt. The boy and the demon poof.

  • Larken looks hurt, what did you do?

  • Ellanna says, you were shaking hands with a demon.

  • Imira puts her face in her hands and nods.

————————————————————————————————-

  • The lady in the center room has her eyes closed and she’s sweating bullets.

  • Yannis confronts her, on fire, are you going to try to kill me too?

  • The lady doesn’t respond to Yannis, can sense Imira. You have to kill me.

  • We all put a hand on the lady.

  • Yannis is still on fire.

  • We wake up where we fell. The bubble in the middle goes away. The remaining smaller horrors are dead.

  • Yannis is still on fire.

  • Yannis charges the demon in the middle, tackling it to the floor. The blood puts the fire out.

  • Larken charges in and attacks it with her sword, doing a good chunk of damage.

  • Part of the demon is the lady we met, part of it is the demon, and it’s fighting with itself.

  • The demon sends out a burst of arcane power, damaging Yannis, Larken, and Imira.

  • Ellanna charges at the demon, doing some damage.

  • Imira sends two Stonefists at the demon, doing some damage.

  • Parill attempts to paralyze it, but fails.

  • Yannis gets up and whomps the demon.

  • Larken slashes at the demon again, piercing its armor.

  • The blood shield comes back for a second, then is pushed back down. The warden is on our side. More arcane energy explodes out, Yannis manages to dodge some of it.

  • Ellanna attacks the demon, finally putting it out of its misery. It had just stood up, but she knocks it down again and puts her swords through its chest.

  • The faint glow that was in the room dissipates, it goes dead silent. The blood in the markings starts to drain away.

——————————————————————————————-

  • The Warden comes running down the stairs at just that moment, with the Creeper and Assara and Finch. The Creeper guy hangs back.

  • The Warden had come to save the day, but we’d already done it. Larken is seething, covered in blood. She stomps over and throws her shield down and yells at her.

  • I had to be saved by THAT, points at Imira. THAT thing was on fire until a minute ago, pointing at Yannis.

  • Assara looks disgusted, the Warden is dismayed, she didn’t know this was going to be down here.

  • After a moment, Assara turns to the Warden and asks why the fuck she brought us here.

  • Larken calms herself down. You should hear Imira tell the story.

  • Imira shuffles over. Starts off by saying they did find a cure.

  • The Warden is low-key happy but tries to contain herself.

  • Imira quickly recaps everything, tells about the five wardens, pulls out the crests. Can we have a funeral?

  • Assara points at the corpses, what the fuck are these.

  • The Warden takes the crests, they’d found a few more of these, the first time Nathaniel and her had been down here. Didn't know what they were. She agrees that they should honor the sacrifices of the wardens. Points at the nightmare bodies.

  • Imira fishes out the Tranquil research. The Warden tells her to keep it, tells her to report to Molly, give her that.

  • Imira explains what the room was originally intended for. The Warden nods, that makes sense.

  • They’d always gotten lost before, but we left a trail.

  • But there were barriers around.

  • Good god, she’s so sorry you had to do this.

  • The Creeper goes to the center of the room, stands over the corpse on the altar. He holds his arms over his head. All of a sudden, a burst of bright white light comes out of him and fills the room, with no warning. The light slowly dims back down. Then he nods at the Warden, walks past us all, and heads back up the stairs.

  • The Warden says, whatever they did here, you guys fixed it and you should be proud of that. Parill says woo!

  • We all head back to the surface. Weirdly, on our way back up, it doesn’t take as long. Our footsteps aren’t the way we remember. No longer feels ominous and horrifying, just feels like a tower.

  • We all fuck-off for a while.

  • Larken is aggressively playing chess against herself in the woods.

  • Ellanna is riding her horse.

  • Yannis takes a long walk.

  • It’s mid-afternoon, a couple days since we first went underground.

  • On our way up, Finch and Assara pass around snacks and water. Assara tosses Larken a wineskin, she wants something stronger but this’ll do for now.

  • The force fields over the stairs are gone, though they’ve been blocked off.

  • Four of us got down into the mage tower, one didn’t follow.

  • Creeper opened a crappy hole into the mage tower.

  • Yannis is helping lower people down with her maul.

  • After the last person, Yannis hears Carver say quietly, I told you so.

  • Warden says fuck

  • There are a ton of Dalish elves behind us.

  • Creeper closes up the whole.

  • Warden tells Yannis to look scary and not hurt anyone.

  • Warden steps forward toward the Keeper of the Dalish clan. Warden knows them.

  • Probably should’ve gone last night to find them, but didn’t.

  • You’re trespassing, you have to leave.

  • Warden suddenly gets very Queen-like. She starts listing off every title she usually hates.

  • Introduces Carver and Yannis.

  • Keeper is only impressed by the Fifth blight, and the keeper of the brecilian forest.

  • This land is dangerous, it’s our sacred duty to guard it, you need to leave.

  • Warden apologizes, says she knows, it’s getting worse, you can’t keep up.

  • Keeper gets quiet.

  • The problem didn’t start with Wardens, but the Wardens made it worse.

  • The elves feel responsible to guard this place, up to the Wardens to fix it.

  • Worse case, we fail and you can seal us in here.

  • The problem is getting beyond your control.

  • Keeper tells the archers to stand down, Yannis is disappointed.

  • Warden and Keeper go off and have a pow-wow.

  • Archers are keeping an eye on us. Carver, Creeper, and Yannis chill.

  • Ground rumbles, Carver says they activated it.

  • Creeper opens the floor again and Carver hustles Yannis in.

  • Feet hit the stairs, stairs turn into a slide. Light from above goes away.

  • Yannis meets up with rest of the party.

  • Staircase goes away completely.

  • They’d lit some torches.

  • We go down the stairs, not just one flight, long and winding, going in weird directions. No other ways out. Maybe there’s stuff in the middle? Can’t really tell.

  • Remember the warden told us about architecture being strange.

  • This level is less shitty than the first floor. Presumably because the stairway’s been closed.

  • Everything is dusty, abandoned a long time. Old musty odor.

  • Peek in a room, looks like it was being regularly used a couple hundred years ago. People that were here just stopped. Abandoned in some manner of haste.

  • Yannis listens at the door, can’t hear anything. Kicks the door, nothing happens. Tries the handle, the door opens.

  • There’s a column of swirling debris and fire. Warden corpse in armor. THey’re fighting each other. Sucking off power from each other, trading damage.

  • Yannis smacks the Warden skeleton, whomping him really good.

  • The column appears behind Yannis, blasts her with fire.

  • Larken launches Ellanna over the column, and Ellanna hits it with her longsword.

  • Larken attempts to shield bash the column and fails.

  • The Warden skeleton swings at Yannis, hitting her hard.

  • Parill charges and pierces the column with an arcane lance.

  • Imira heals Yannis and Larken.

  • Yannis hits the skeleton hard, follows through on the swing and annihilates the column.

  • Ellanna charges at the skeleton, gives it a whomp.

  • Larken charges the skeleton as well, hurting it as well.

  • The skeleton retaliates against Larken, piercing her armor.

  • Parill moves forward and drains life from the skeleton, pulling out the life force animating it.

  • Yannis gives everyone high fives. Imira grabs her arms and wraps bandages around them. Yannis has to high-five Larken’s shield. Also teaches Ellanna how to give high-fives.

  • This is some sort of research room. Paper is all over the table, two big bookshelves packed with books and scrolls. In the corner, remains of a small campfire. Part of the table near the campfire is clear. Skeleton warrior was burning stuff.

  • Parill looks under the table, nothing is there. Sees a heart and initials carved into the wood. Yannis climbs under there too, takes her own look.

  • Imira looks in the bookshelf. Each book has a paper slip in it, like a library slip. There are repeated words, darkspawn, blight, lyrium, and a bunch of names. Hub of a research library.

  • Larken looks around, notices research on lyrium. Formulas and such.

  • Ellanna looks in the other bookshelf. Finds a series of reports that are between the warden commander of this tower and her constable, reporting darkspawn activity. Dated right before the start of the 4th blight. Reports are increasingly urgent.

  • Get the feeling they didn’t finish in time.

  • Ellanna thinks, ugh Rhonan would love this.

  • Yannis heads out to find more stuff to fight.

  • Larken finds a door, but it is locked and there is no key. Magically locked.

  • Imira takes a closer look. Definitely intentionally closed and magically sealed. Magical circuit running through the door that’ll keep it from being destroyed or opened until something is in the keyhole. Door that is also a force-field. Keeping everything in or out.

  • Yannis ran into a room with piles of supplies in it. Several hundred years old. People didn’t take stuff before they left.

  • We move on. Spilled drink and half-finished meals.

  • Yannis grabs a couple sealed bottles of super old alcohol.

  • Doesn’t find anything else cool.

  • We move on. More signs of hasty departure. Base of operations for Wardens. Max, a dozen people living here.

  • Ellanna steps forward to pick the lock of the door.

  • A huge skeleton is in there. Yannis rushes in and the rest of her party locks her inside.

  • The skeleton swings and misses. Yannis hits him.

  • The skeleton hits, Yannis misses.

  • The skeleton hits, Yannis hits twice, hard, knocking him to the ground.

  • He gets up, hits Yannis.

  • Ellanna opens the door again, jumps onto a bed and swings twice at the skeleton, bringing it to the ground.

  • Very nice warden armor, remains of a sword sticking out of the remains of his neck. Signs of a struggle. Probably murdered.

  • Yannis tries to high-five Ellanna, Imira heals her.

  • There’s a locked chest, Yannis calls Ellanna over to pick the lock.

  • Basic personal effects. A personal journal.

  • Imira takes a look at the skeleton, but is a little squeamish.

  • Parill looks too.

  • Ellanna finds a little crescent on his belt that’ll open the magically locked door.

  • We go back to the door. The door glows blue, and there’s a soft hissing sound, and the door pops open just a little bit.

  • Scrapey noises from upstairs. Ellanna and Larken groan.

  • There’s a huge pile of corpses, with corpses starting to stand up.

  • Yannis is super excited and pushes past everyone to get inside.

  • Corpses are wearing warden armor. Piles of bones on the floor. Not all of the bones are human. Used to be darkspawn. Chokepoint of large battle, final retreat.

  • Yannis swings hard into the skeleton in front of her.

  • Larken charges in and attacks a skeleton, hitting him deftly and getting past some of the warden armor.

  • Ellanna charges a skeleton, striking it twice with her longswords.

  • Skeleton swings at Larken, piercing her armor and knocking her down.

  • Skeleton runs at Yannis stabbing her hard in the back.

  • Parill runs forward and stabs a skeleton with arcane lance.

  • Skeleton runs at Yannis, stabs her and knocks her over. Another skeletons stabs her too.

  • Other skeleton runs at Larken and stabs her, other skeleton stabs Ellanna.

  • Yannis sticks her hand in the air for a healing high-five from Imira.

  • Imira shuffles forward to heal her, falls on her ass.

  • Yannis gets up, starts to try to help Imira. Imira tells her to attack, so she smacks a skeleton and knocks it back.

  • Ellanna takes out the skeleton that hit her.

  • Larken gets up and attacks a skeleton, does a bit of damage.

  • He retaliates, hitting Larken hard and knocking her down again.

  • Skeleton attacks Imira, stabbing her a little. She still has rock armor.

  • Parill runs forward and arcane lances a skeleton.

  • Skeleton rushes Yannis and misses.

  • Skeleton attacks Parill, stabbing her a little with his spear.

  • Skeleton attacks Larken and smacks her with his sword. It glances off her armor.

  • Yannis reaches out to help Imira up and she bandages Yannis’s arm.

  • Yannis smacks the skeleton next to Imira, smacking him back.

  • Ellanna charges a skeleton, performing a lethal blow.

  • Larken gets up, swings at a skeleton and misses.

  • Skeleton swings back at Larken and knocks her back down again.

  • Skeleton charges Yannis, slices her a little.

  • Parill charges a skeleton, does some damage. Does a second attack too. She tries to decompose it, but fails. Falls on her ass.

  • Skeleton hits Yannis hard.

  • Skeleton takes a stab at Parill, dealing some extra damage.

  • Skeleton attacks Larken and misses.

  • Imira bandages Yannis’s leg and heals Parill and Larken.

  • Yannis swings her mauls in a huge arch, bursting two skeletons into bone confetti.

  • Ellanna attacks her skeleton, striking twice and taking him out.

  • Larken gets up, and does a lethal blow on the skeleton that’s been wailing on her. She’s super focused on this skeleton.

  • Skeleton attacks Yannis and misses.

  • Parill gets up and casts Decompose. She raises her staff, traces a glyph in the air. The skeleton crumbles into dust and is super dead. Bone glitter!

  • Imira finally stands and punches the skeleton with a stone fist. It dinks off him. She swings at him with another fist and knocks him prone.

  • Yannis smashes the skeleton into shards.

  • Yannis cheers, raises her hand for high fives.

  • Imira goes around healing people.

  • Parill attempts to decompose the pile of bones, and fails.

  • Yannis starts smashing the bone pile into pieces.

  • The rest of the group moves on and finds a shade.

  • Yannis continues smashing.

  • Ellanna comes running up and Larken springboards her into the room.

  • Ellanna swings down at shade, hitting it mightily. It dissipates fairly significantly.

  • It was bent over a corpse in the middle of the room.

  • Larken shield bashes the shade.

  • The shade attempts to touch Ellanna with a draining touch, but she stares it down and it shies away.

  • Parill charges at the shade with her arcane lance, poofing it.

  • Yannis finishes smashing, rushes to join her party.

  • People examine the body, Imira notices a journal, but Yannis calls it out first.

  • Up some stairs is a huge glowing force field that’s glowing with a hum only Larken can hear.

  • Parill tries to hold Ellanna’s hand, but she’s having none of it.

  • Imira heals Larken.

  • Through the force field, we see a bed, some supplies, and some staircases.

  • Down another hallway is another force field.

  • Larken opens the door to the larder. There are a whole bunch of rats in there. Yannis rushes in and Larken closes the door behind her.

  • Yannis starts swinging at the rats while Larken and Ellanna sit on crates until she’s done. She kills one rat.

  • The rats knock Yannis over.

  • Imira opens the door again, she wants to help fight. She uses arcane lance and kills a rat too.

  • Imira closes the door again, deciding to leave it to the other mages.

  • Yannis doesn’t want to leave.

  • Everyone else leaves.

  • Yannis throws alcohol bottles at the rats and lights a torch to set them all ablaze. The rat problem is replaced by a fire problem.

  • The rest of the part smells burning fur. Ellanna and Larken walk faster. Parill and Imira go back to help Yannis put out the fire. We find some gross water barrels and Yannis starts filling her bucket. Imira suggests we move the whole barrel, so Yannis heaves it into the storeroom and puts out the fire. The storeroom is heavily scorched.

  • Yannis grabs another bottle of booze on their way to rejoin the other warriors.

  • We head downstairs. The whole hallway is full of blood and corpses. The darkspawn breached the building. The place we were just in was where the wardens had their last stand.

  • The branches we find are boarded off or caved in. One obvious way down. As we keep going, we start to feel cold. Parill thinks it’s great, everyone else feels unsettled.

  • We start to see a faint glowing blue light.

  • See two ghostly figures. Incorporeal, but wearing same warden armor. Seem to be fighting nothing, pushed back toward us. Pass through us and hit the stairs. Disappear and reappear in the hallway again. Happens over and over again.

  • Larken tries a door, but it’s locked. Ellanna steps forward and unlocks it. There’s another flight of stairs going down.

  • Larken tries another door. There’s a still image of someone wearing a circle mage’s robes. Hiding, obviously cowering. Silent. It’s afraid.

  • Larken opens another door, into barracks. ANother image of a warden picking things up, arming and armoring itself. When it’s fully dressed, it’s heading toward the door, then blinks out and the image starts over.

  • Through another door, more barracks. This new room is dustier, much thicker than the last room. Streaks of blood on the floor and walls.

  • Parill asks if we can keep the ghosts when we move in. Larken glares.

  • Moving on, we find another messed up bedroom. A mage is on the floor being dragged toward us. Its throat opens up, and then it resets.

  • Larken makes a low growl in her throat and moves on.

  • Parill wants this room for herself.

  • We find a locked door, Ellanna unlocks it. An image of a mage is inside what looks like a research room. Hard to tell how recently stuff was left here. Spirit looks like it’s working, piling stuff in an invisible pile.

  • Most of these images are the last moments of people’s lives. This last one was more like a memory.

  • Down the hallway is darkspawn and warden corpses.

  • Find a neat and tidy bedroom, followed by one that is not neat and tidy.

  • Spirit is driven back by something we can’t see, lays down in a corpse, over and over.

  • We find another mage, backing up in fear over and over, lying down in an ancient skeleton.

  • Find a door that says “Do not open on order of the Warden-Commander.”

  • This all feels familiar to Larken.

  • Closed off room is where the First Enchanter would be.

  • We move on, door with dark stuff leaking out from under it.

  • Yannis kicks open the door and there’s a big pile of the Blight. Originating from a dresser in the corner of the room. Mage image hastily clearing things out of the dresser.

  • Imira and Yannis recognize it. Imira pulls on Larken’s arm, we should go.

  • We close that door and go to the “Do not enter” door instead.

  • It’s the first enchanter’s chambers. The First Enchanter is a horrifying abomination hanging from a noose in the center of the room. As soon as we come in, it lets out a horrible raspy scream and starts struggling.

  • Ellanna charges forward and strikes at the abomination, slashing twice.

  • Larken charges too, hitting hard with her bastard sword.

  • Yannis charges as well, hitting the abomination and setting it swinging on the noose.

  • The abomination claws at Larken.

  • Parill throws an arcane lance from afar.

  • Imira strikes the abomination with a stone fist (pebble).

  • Ellanna takes the abomination to the ground and stabs it to death.

  • Yannis rummages in the mage’s chest and finds 9 silver.

  • Larken finds a suicide note. Slams it on the table and walks away.

  • Parill roots around a bit too, finds 11 silver.

  • Parill decomposes abomination’s body while we take a breather.

  • We head down to the next lower level. The architecture is really freaky. More barracks-type levels, more of the same. Battles fought, mages killed. Remains of humans and darkspawn. Doesn’t look like it was inhabited by the wardens.

  • We start hearing noises, shuffling and hollow wailing.

  • We reach what looks like a prison/holding cells.

  • Inside the cells we can see are lots of corpses, dressed in circle robes.

  • Some of the skeletons coalesce into a form, then collapse again. Again. Unstable. Tried for hundreds and hundreds of years.

  • At the far end is a staircase, can see a faint blue glow coming from a pit.

  • Larken moves forward, a dude is pacing in a lower area. Templar armor, someone of rank. Weird and ghostly and glowing blue. Hasn’t noticed us yet.

  • Larken surprises it with an attack, but whiffs.

  • Yannis down the steps and swings hard into the ghost Templar’s shield, driving it back.

  • Parill charges it with her arcane lance. The Templar raises its shield and the magical energy dings off it.

  • Ellanna charges in, but whiffs also.

  • The Templar charges Yannis. He starts glowing bright blue and hits her. Imira realizes that the loosely held-together bones can pass through the bars of their cells and are approaching her.

  • Larken attacks, but her sword glances off his armor.

  • A skeleton shuffles forward and attacks Imira. Another one shuffles forward stands menacingly.

  • Imira sends out a stone fist, knocking the skeleton in front of her prone. She sends out another one, hitting the one behind the first.

  • Yannis swings at the Templar, hitting for some damage.

  • Other zombie shuffles forward.

  • Ellanna stabs through his armor this time.

  • Parill casts a vulnerability hex on the Templar and regains some mana.

  • Skeleton shuffles forward.

  • The Templar swings and hits Yannis for full damage.

  • Larken hits the Templar, dinking away at it.

  • Zombie gets up and attacks Imira again. It claws at her and starts strangling her.

  • Other zombie warps to a better position and also swings at Imira. He saps some life energy from her and regains health.

  • Imira manages to break free. She sends another stone fist at the zombie that had been strangling her, but it’s a mere pebble.

  • Yannis swings her maul into the Templar again, hitting him hard.

  • Zombies shuffle forward.

  • Ellanna parkours off a wall, springboards off Larken’s shield, and cannonballs through one of the zombies, killing it. She swings at a second zombie and with a flourish, she takes him out too.

  • Parill charges up the stairs and past Imira, lancing her attacker to death.

  • Templar swings and hurts Yannis.

  • Larken turns away from the Templar ghost and charges at a zombie, murdering it good.

  • A corpse attacks Parill, clawing her.

  • Imira heals Parill and Yannis.

  • Yannis pummels the Templar to death and his armor clatters to the floor.

  • A zombie shuffles toward Ellanna.

  • She swings at him with a lethal blow, murdering him.

  • Parill charges a zombie, damaging it.

  • Larken starts examining the room. Yannis is breathing hard, but gives her a thumbs up and receives a nod in return.

  • Zombie claws Parill, but misses.

  • Imira heals Yannis.

  • Yannis starts looking around.

  • Ellanna phases the prison wall and murders the last skeleton to death.

  • The table in this room has blacksmithing stuff. There’s raw lyrium on the table.

  • Imira heals Yannis.

  • On the belt of the Templar jailer, Larken finds a ring of keys and gives them to Ellanna.

  • In the rest of the prison, more Blight is coming out of a research desk.

  • The keys open a worktable. Covered in refined lyrium dust and three bottled lyrium potions. Yannis points them out to the mages but doesn’t touch them.

  • There are also unfinished runes. Workstation was a place for potion and rune-crafting.

  • Imira offers the potions to Parill, who’ll hold onto them. Privately, Imira knows she won’t need them.

  • Most of the other areas were kind of picked over by the wardens.

  • Imira finds a table with detailed research notes. Can’t make a ton of sense of it. But there are mentions of finding a cure for the Blight.

  • Meticulous scientific notes, Imira thinks it was written by a tranquil mage. This research was before the wardens showed up.

  • Yannis finds a bench with tools and stuff. Larken recognizes them as tools for refining lyrium.

  • It is implied that the templars and mages here had access to a steady supply of lyrium.

  • Yannis checks out the Blight room. Someone was locked in here and made to do research. But there’s taint-slime growing out of the desk.

  • This was here from when the mages were here. They brought Blight back up and started studying it. In the centuries since, it started growing.

  • The jailer’s keys unlock the door down. Going down is a nightmare, the stairs branch and end and make no sense.

  • Every time the stairs branch, Parill feels very confident about which way they should go. It’s dark and miserable.

  • Eventually, Parill is proven right. Come down into a freaky room.

  • There are different weird magical torches burning. Otherwise dark. Smells of blood, there’s blood in the carvings in the floor. Five altars, people chained to them and each other. Blood spilling off all the altars onto the floor. All the people look like they’re wearing Warden armor.

First Half of Third Session
11/12/16

<meta />

  • We’re rewinding, we’re different people now.

  • A few days ago. The meeting with the warden hasn’t happened yet.

  • Three are on a boat, one in the forest, Yannis is in a bar in antiva

  • Waiting for a boat to come in for a couple days, we’re all antsy

  • Yannis is hanging out with whoever. Middle of the evening. Corinne is passed out on a table.

  • Finch is asleep in a pile of sacks of flour

  • Yannis is with Zady and Cooper, drinking all evening, swapping stories.

  • Zady asks about Yannis’s eye scar, Yannis tells the whole story.

  • Zady says Yannis should end the story with her winning instead of getting her ass beat

  • Yannis says nah, she’s an honest woman, doesn't want to lie

  • Zady has a story too, pulls up the back of her shirt

  • Huge gash across her back, nasty scar

  • I have like 6 stories, but you told me the truth, i’ll tell you the truth

  • Where were we? Thinks for a moment, where were we, Zenna? Kirkwall says Zenna, from another room.

  • Oh right, we were cleaning up rubble

  • Looking for my sister, go into a room

  • There’s dynamite everywhere, fuses lit

  • No one knew

  • Zenna hooked her with her axe, pulled her out of the blast radius, and that's how she got the huge scar

  • We both turn to Coop, how’d you get your scar? Coop says okay, he’ll tell the truth

  • Leans in, lowers voice

  • Made a mistake years ago

  • Badmouthed Alistair in front of the warden

  • From somewhere else, Dammit cooper, stop telling people I clawed your eye out!

  • Yannis is disappointed that coop didn't tell the truth

  • Assara comes in, Yannis greets her loudly. She says that the boat is finally here

  • Cooper get the horses

  • Zenna and Zady get stuff ready

  • Tells Yannis to sober up

  • Why me?

  • Yannis sticks her head in a barrel of water

  • Assara gives Finch a shake, we could use some dinner. He mumble something and she leaves him

  • Larken’s been hiding out in the woods, it’s deep in the evening, after dinner

  • Not quite dark yet, but getting there.

  • Larken is doing some meditation and stretches, winding down for the evening.

  • While she’s in the middle of it, hears someone approaching. They’re trying to make themselves heard, don't want Larken to think they’re sneaking up on her

  • Roll out of position and grabs sword. Stand up and pretend to be relaxed.

  • Familiar elf, was with the warden when you got here, kicking everyone’s asses into gear. Think her name is Assara.

  • Approaching with hands up, not getting to close.

  • Larken nods to her, Assara approaches

  • Boat is here, the warden needs everyone

  • Everyone’s leaving first thing in the morning.

  • Do you want to pack up or sleep out here another night?

  • What’s corinne’s status? Passed out under a table.

  • That’ll do. Larken packs up super quickly, Assara is impressed. This is also how she camps.

  • Talking and walking, Assara is walking quickly, purposefully, but not rushed.

  • Briefing Larken, people she’ll be working with, on the ship. Guard captain from Denerim, two mages that were part of the rebuilding and refugee assistance program in Redcliffe.

  • Larken grunts

  • Assara, I don’t know a ton about them, but if you have questions..

  • I don’t have any questions, I don’t want to know.

  • Assara asks Larken, unofficially, to keep an eye on them cause she’s a Templar. But the warden wouldn’t have brought in these mages if she didn’t trust them.

  • Larken says that's good enough for her.

  • Assara says yeah it has to be

  • As they’re walking Assara asks, so Corinne, I’m going to be traveling with her. Do you have any advice?

  • Larken: disgusted noise

  • Larken rolls her eyes, you have to remember, she’s very very passionate about everything.

  • Assara: disgusted noise

  • The best way to keep her out of serious trouble, is keep her in minor trouble, keep her distracted.

  • What’s safe?

  • Larken stops Assara, any pretty face, anyone will do.

  • Assara closes her eyes and pinches the bridge of her noise, this is going to be a long trip

  • Let her bang the crap out of someone and she won’t run away and set something on fire.

  • Larken goes on to say, she’s a good mage and a good kid, she doesn’t want to hurt people. You can trust her, you just have to keep her distracted.

  • Assara, she’s going to fuck everyone on this trip

  • She’s gonna try

  • I’ve heard stories about another mage you’re going to meet, on the research team

  • Oh?

  • I think they’ll get along, let’s leave it at that

  • Oh.

  • After some power-walking, get down to the docks. It’s full dark, the boat has come in.

  • Assara leads Larken onboard.

  • We’re going to head back, but I have something for you. Disappears below deck, gone for a few minutes. Comes back with a wrapped package, shield shaped.

  • This is from the warden, from someone who’s an expert in shield-making

  • Can open it now or whenever, up to you

  • Larken sets it down and unwraps it

  • Big-ass shield, crest of fereldan done is blue pretty colors.

  • Makes her feel tingly, maybe magical

  • Very well-made

  • Then going to find Ellana, Imira, and Parill. Points out to Rhonan from afar, that’s the guy

  • Larken, I hate him on sight

  • Right?

  • Assara hustles them all together, takes them back to the inn.

  • Now caught up with the start of the first session, debriefing with the Warden.

  • She has found an entrance to the deep roads, connected to a building they can make hospitable and secret. Emphasis on secret.

  • The reason she’s called them here, shit’s going down with the Wardens and needs our help. Assembled this team to make murder on the darkspawn while the research team tries to find a cure for the blight.

  • Our job is to leave first thing, ahead of the caravan, clear out the building enough so the rest of them can move in without attracting attention.

  • Rest up, we’re leaving first thing in the morning. Set off on horseback, supplies for a couple of days.

  • When she mentions sobering up, Yannis salutes

  • As the meeting is winding down, hear Corinne yell out “look at that pretty face!”

  • Larken nods at Assara, now you understand.

  • Assara says something about having to go, make preparations.

  • Dismisses all of us, there are rooms in the tavern.

  • Have the evening to ourselves.

  • Ellanna is the last to leave, catching up with the Warden. When she leaves, find small redheaded chick on the stairs, pops up immediately “hello!”

  • You’re the guard-captain, right?

  • That I am.

  • Okay so I was talking to the warden, hi i’m molly, and i realized she forgets that not everyone can just glare at a lock and have it fall open. Didn’t think about the fact that she’s sending you guys into an old building with potentially locked doors

  • I researched when we think the building was built and when it was last occupied, etc, and then holds up a key ring and hands it to ellanna. Won’t open every door, but most of the locks I think will be in this building.

  • Ellanna’s really impressed and thanks Molly.

  • Molly really hopes they work.

  • Gives a salute, a jaunty pin-up sailor girl salute and dashes off down the stairs.

  • Ellanna really wants to see her horse. Gets directions to the stables.

  • When the ship was being unloaded, they shooed her to the warden and away from her horse. But now she gets to see it again.

  • Hears a deep voice, sounds like a person sweet-talking a beautiful lady.

  • Ellanna looks inside, it’s her horse and a dude. Her bitchy mare is eating out of this person’s hand.

  • Excuse me, who are you?

  • He startles, didn’t hear her come in. Smiles big and sticks out a dirty hand, hello I’m cooper.

  • Ellanna shakes it

  • This is my horse

  • He starts gushing about how sweet and wonderful the horse is, she kicked someone on the way here but she’s perfect

  • Isn’t she though?

  • Some of the horses were feeling bad after the boat, but she handled it better than me.

  • She’s good at handling stuff like that

  • He nods

  • He’s been grooming her and has bonded with her.

  • Stops and remembers himself. Wait you’re the guard-captain.

  • Yes, yes I am.

  • Ah shit fuck is on his face

  • Gives a stiff awkward bow

  • The warden told me to make her ready to ride tonight. Haven’t finished yet.

  • You don’t have to get that flustered, please don’t bow, it’s not a big deal

  • He’s not so sure.

  • You’re going to have a really long ride tomorrow, pushing the horses. Don’t keep her out too long tonight

  • Not going to

  • With that, he awkwardly pats the horse and murmurs to her and then starts to bow, then stops, and leaves.

  • Leaves her to her horse, busy himself with other horses.

  • Ellanna tells her horse, that was really weird.

  • Back inside the tavern, Imira feels like crap. The boats didn’t suit her, it was a long trip, lots of people.

  • Didn’t assign a room to Imira specifically, she doesn’t know where to go, who to ask. Sits on the stairs being miserable. Head between knees

  • An elf comes up to her. Gently taps her on the shoulder, let’s get you off the stairs.

  • Moves her to where it’s quieter. Set her out a little plate of food from the kitchens. Are you going to be alright?

  • She nods, yeah I’ll be okay.

  • Do you think you can eat?

  • I can certainly try.

  • He scoots the plate away. I think I know someone who can help. You look a little lost, are you alright?

  • She nods.

  • You’re with the warden yeah?

  • Yeah i came on the boat

  • Ah yep, okay. And she didn’t tell you where your room is, did she

  • Shakes her head

  • Stay here, it’ll be okay, I’ll be right back .

  • Imira picks at the food.

  • A different elf, a lady, sits down next to Imira and offers a cup of tea

  • Imira takes it gratefully and says thanks, genuine.

  • This should help, sickness sucks, a lot of people have come in not feeling super good.

  • As Imira is drinking it, hi my name is Kari, who are you?

  • Imira introduces herself.

  • I might be able to help with your, gestures vaguely at the head, stomach, everything is miserable, if you’d like me to try

  • How?

  • I know how to do a head massage that’ll make you head stop hurting, but it’s fine if you don’t want me to, you don’t know me. Gets flustered

  • I don’t want to make you, but you seem sick and I want to help

  • If you think it’ll help..

  • Kari tentatively scooches closer, puts her hands on Imira’s head, attitude is like, is this okay?

  • Starts gently massaging temples and scalp, and it’s a little weird, but almost immediately Imira starts feeling better. Makes her a little sleepy, feels nice even though it’s kinda weird.

  • As she’s giving the head massage, it’s really relaxing, Imira gets a weird sense for a second like she can smell rain, earthy smell in the air for a second.

  • Suddenly all the sea-sickness is gone and she feels fine. Blinks awake.

  • Kari has made a little crown braid around her head.

  • Imira gives another very sincere thank you. Amazed that it worked and also her hair looks great.

  • Kari says you’re welcome, anytime, you’re important and I don’t want you to feel bad, trails off mumbling and blushing and shy

  • I’m really not that important, touches her shoulder, it’s okay

  • But you are, you are important, the warden said so

  • Imira quietly whispers no

  • Kari doesn’t understand, you guys are going to save the world

  • Imira offers the food from the plate she’s been picking at.

  • Kari takes a little bite

  • Finch comes back, tells her what room is her, went to the warden and figured it out. Your friend, the Avvar is in the next room over. She got here while you guys were in the meeting and is already asleep

  • Your stuff is in your room and the warden spaced out, sorry

  • Imira thanks him and introduces herself.

  • Finch does the same

  • The food’s really good

  • Finch puffs up a little, thank you it's my job.

  • Imira heads up to bed, says thanks to both of them again and shuffles off to her room.

  • She gets to her room and is rummaging around in her stuff. Finds, in the bags she was going to take tomorrow, they’re heavier. When she opens them up, there’s a bag that’s not hers, with a note.

  • Imira leaves the bag alone, she’ll take it with her and not peak at it. Doesn’t want to know. She’s really confused, just wants to go to sleep.

  • She doesn’t sleep well cause she’s trying not to look at the strange bag.

  • That night we get some sleep, some sleep better than others.

  • The next morning the warden comes to collect us, our horses are ready. The caravan is getting set up, but clearly the warden was up a couple hours ago to make everything go smoothly.

  • It’s us, the warden, Carver, and the creepy guy.

  • It’s a lovely day, beautiful and sunny and we do not get immediately attacked by bandits. We beat the rush, the group that will attack the level-1 characters later

  • Following paths rather than roads, setting a hard pace, pushing the horses a bit.

  • No room to be super chatty, riding with purpose.

  • From dawn until we break for lunch, we’re just riding north, pretty fast.

  • Around lunchtime, the warden reiterates, the reason we’re going is we want to get there in time to have time to clear out the base to make room for the supplies before the caravan gets there

  • Don’t know who or what might to watching

  • The entrance to the deep roads is secret from the general populace and also wardens. The better we can keep that secret, the better we can operate

  • As soon as we’re done eating, we get back on the road.

  • As the sun is setting, getting into the evening, the warden stops us all abruptly. We don’t see why, no apparent reason.

  • Fuck

  • She turns us around and we ride back the way we came for half a mile, then we slow and stop.

  • Warden: i was hoping to avoid this a little longer. There’s a clan of dalish elves that guards where we’re going. I’d been trying to get in touch with them but couldn’t because they didn’t want to be found,.

  • Wanted to talk to the Keeper before we were trespassing, but couldn’t

  • They know we’re here so we’re backtracking to give them some space

  • Exchanges some words with Carver

  • We’ll camp here and ride the rest of the way in the morning

  • Let’s break and make camp

  • She gets off her horse and Carver and the creep get off their horses

  • Warden and Carver starts getting camp set up

  • The creep sits on a log and does nothing to help

  • Carver is being domestic, making dinner over a campfire.

  • Many people are making disgusted noises at the creep

  • Larken approaches him, has the ride been hard for you?

  • I could’ve done it a little slower

  • Not used to horses, huh?

  • Shrugs

  • What about campsites, do a lot of camping?

  • Shrugs

  • Works a lot better when we all work together

  • I’ll do my part when the time goes

  • Disgusted noise

  • Larken turns away, makes eye contact with Ellanna, shakes her head and rolls her eyes

  • Creep takes out his walking stick, draws something on the ground and smacks it with the stick, and suddenly there’s a big bubble around all of us. Little warmer, a little nicer

  • Larken and Ellanna glare

  • He’s a little smug

  • Idly remarks, hope it doesn’t rain tonight. Oh wait it doesn’t matter.

  • Larken stomps away, a little rain never hurt anyone

  • Imira is impressed by the bubble.

  • Carver throws a rock at the creep and the warden smacks him. Ellanna cheers

  • Smoke from the campfire is passing through the bubble.

  • Creepy guy is sitting as far away as possible, while still being in the bubble.

  • Warden sits us down. Draws us in close. Okay now that we’re out here in the middle of fucking nowhere

  • I’m gonna tell you what you need to know about where we’re going

  • Yannis pulls out a flask and passes it around. Larken takes it. Yannis pulls out a second flask for herself

  • This place is only in a few warden records

  • Circle tower, abandoned all this time

  • In 309 Towers, the knight commander in the tower killed all the mages in the circle

  • He declared he was enacting the rite of annulment, but later determined that that wasn’t the case

  • No one knows why he did it

  • So many mages died all at once in this place

  • The veil is incredibly thin

  • The whole area is haunted and that’s the reason the dalish clan has lingered here

  • At some point, wardens found this tower and decided to make it into a base. Being really frank, wardens are scavengers and will take any abandoned buildings if they’re up for grabs

  • The wardens that were in the tower were researching a cure for the blight, doesn't know why there’s no record, but has reason to believe this

  • No one really knows what happened

  • At the start of the 4th blight, the wardens in this tower where heard from again

  • Doesn’t think any darkspawn came from here though

  • Antiva was overrun by darkspawn so fast, the wardens couldn’t react

  • The whole country was lost, the fastest a blight has spread ever.

  • Antiva City was overrun, the royal family was lost, looked like there was no hope.

  • Warden went around systematically destroying entrances to the deep roads.

  • End result, this is the only entrance in the area

  • She’s been in the tower a couple times, with carver and Nathaniel

  • Only can get so far into the tower before their wardenness attracts attention

  • They think there’s some active magic in the tower

  • Built over hundreds of years, architecture is bizarre, no straight line from top to bottom

  • Once we get inside, hundreds of horrible things, probably not darkspawn but lots of other stuff

  • Decades if not centuries of important research that we need to get our hands on.

  • Any questions?

  • Yannis asks what is it with mages and towers? Warden says it’s phallic and Yannis wrinkles her nose

  • Yannis raises her hand again, how can I fight the spirits, I used to have a fancy silvered maul but I had to sell it to get here.

  • Warden says you’ll just have to hit stuff and see what happens.

  • We go to bed, Yannis will be hungover tomorrow.

<meta />

  • Astrid, Corinne, Rhonan are in the bar

  • Lorenzo is outside the bar

  • Harrett is fixing the axle back with the carts

  • Rhonan is shit-faced and will not be helping

  • Lindel is crying at the caravan.

  • Remy was escorting Corinne away from the bar, but there was a commotion and Corinne stumbles back

  • She goes back inside, but there’s no fight, not yet

  • From the look of things, Zady and Zenna were this close to beating this dwarf, but Finch upturned booze over the dwarf and the waitress (that was the shriek).

  • Zady and Zenna grab the dwarf and pull him out the back

  • Corinne stumbles after them, she’s pretty sure she’s hallucinating.

  • Astrid follows too. Lorenzo was already there, talking to Molly.

  • Remy stands in the doorway, looking worried. Corinne rubs her hand over his face as she passes.

  • As soon as the dwarf sees her, you thought we wouldn’t be able to find you, there’s nowhere you can find, where is our money?

  • Corinne addresses everyone, Ex-lovers, right?

  • Tries to shush the dwarf. Without getting any closer.

  • For the moment, the dwarf isn’t really struggling, but he’s insistent. He wants the money.

  • If you calm down, we can talk this over, we can come to a solution.

  • Are you sure, you owe us a lot

  • Yeah i’m on this venture to make a lot of money, which I’ll give you when the venture is over, it’ll be great, nothing can go wrong.

  • Then tell your friends to let me go

  • Corinne at ZZ, let him go, it’ll be fine

  • Dwarf, how long exactly will it take you?

  • Corinne thinks about it…a month

  • It’s been several months already, can you give us some collateral?

  • Corinne looks at Finch expectantly

  • She whispers loudly, spot me this one time, i’ll buy you a drink later

  • …Larken will buy you a drink later

  • The dwarf, also what assurances do I have that you won’t run for it again? Tell me more about the venture, where it is

  • DEEP ROADS EXPEDITION, just like the champion of kirkwall, she did it, we can do it

  • Remy tackles Corinne, claps a hand over her mouth

  • Zady swears and cuts the dwarf’s throat

  • Corinne looks wide-eyed, wait, is that true??? Is that what we’re doing?

  • Finch – it’s time to go

  • C – i swear I didn’t know

  • Corinne pushes Remy aside and loots the dwarf. She finds 16 silver, a health potion, and a dagger.

  • All the NPCs are eager to get out of there. Zenna picks up the corpse, sends her sister inside to find Rhonan.

  • Molly – what just happened??

  • Corinne yells the same

  • Crazy ex-lovers, amirite?

  • Remy – we need to leave right now

  • Meanwhile…

  • Lorenzo, Corinne, and Astrid come rushing from the bar, toward the caravans.

  • Corinne is drunkenly chasing after Lorenzo…’s butt.

  • There are some dwarves attacking the caravan.

  • Harrett was repairing the axle when a bunch of dwarves appear out of nowhere.

  • Harrett bellows “WE’RE UNDER ATTACK” and swings at one of the dwarves.

  • She swings around, hitting both dwarves with her hammer.

  • The rest of the group runs in.

  • A dwarf smacks Harrett with his short sword

  • Lorenzo attempts to sneak up on another dwarf, but the dwarf spots him instantly, easily dodging Lorenzo’s attack.

  • The other dwarf smacks Harrett too.

  • Harrett smacks him back, and goes on the defensive.

  • A dwarf runs over and hits Lorenzo, not too hard.

  • Corinne is pretending she has no idea who the dwarves are. She runs over and sends an arcane lance at a dwarf. He’s like “oh shit, magic.” Corinne denies this.

  • A dwarf runs over to Corinne and hits her hard, knocking the staff out of her hands.

  • She mourns how defenseless she suddenly has become.

  • A dwarf runs over to hit Lorenzo, piercing his armor.

  • Another dwarf leaps over the cart to attack Harrett, but misses completely.

  • Astrid hears Corinne say she’s defenseless, and believes her, running over to attack the dwarf attacking her. She seizes the initiative and attacks again right away.

  • She smashes him into the ground, and he is super dead.

  • Dwarf smacks Harrett.

  • Lorenzo stabs a dwarf.

  • Dwarf attempts to attack Harrett, but she parries the blow with her longsword.

  • Harrett smacks the most injured of her attackers and kills him.

  • Dwarf smacks Lorenzo.

  • Corinne picks up her staff and fires an arcane lance, but misses. She’s drunkenly pretending like she can’t do magic. These lightning bolts are definitely coming from the sky.

  • A dwarf swings at Lorenzo, and seizes the initiative.

  • Dwarf smacks Harrett.

  • Dwarf swings at Lorenzo again, hitting him.

  • Astrid runs over and hits two dwarves with one swing.

  • Dwarf closes his eyes and swings at Harrett, barely hitting her.

  • Lorenzo attacks a dwarf, killing him. He swings at a second dwarf, but misses. Instead, he does a roundhouse kick and punts the dwarf into a bush.

  • Harrett swings at one of her opponents. She hits him hard, then hits him again, killing him. Then she goes on defense.

  • Corinne heals Lorenzo, then quickly sends a lightning bolt at the dwarf in the bush. She misses, shooting the lightning into the sky instead.

  • Dwarf swings at Harrett.

  • Bush dwarf gets to his feet and attacks Astrid, giving her a little poke.

  • Astrid swings back, hitting him hard.

  • Lorenzo attempts to sneak attack Harrett’s opponent, but fails miserably. He does a regular attack and takes a chunk out of the dwarf.

  • Harrett attempts to swing at the dwarf, but he’s shorter than expected and she swings right over his head.

  • Corinne heals Harrett, then quickly casts Winter’s Grasp, chilling one of the dwarves.

  • The dwarf’s blood is freezing in his veins and he’s not moving super well.

  • Dwarf swings at Harrett and shoves her back into the cart.

  • Bush dwarf swings at Astrid, doing minor damage.

  • Astrid swings back at him, throwing him back into the bush and dropping her maul on his face, killing him.

  • She runs over to the last dwarf, killing him too.

  • This was relatively isolated, but there’s scattered fighting going on around us. Assara comes running by, pointing, don’t let him get away.

  • We see another dwarf, attempting to run away.

  • Astrid runs forward and attempt to shoot him with her bow, but misses.

  • Lorenzo runs after him, as does Harrett.

  • Corinne attempts to grasp him with winter, but fails.

  • The dwarf continues running.

  • Astrid runs forward again and misses with her bow again.

  • Lorenzo runs forward, attempting to be sneaky, but the dwarf sees him coming.

  • He attempts to tackle the dwarf, and fails that too.

  • Harrett chucks her hammer at the dwarf, but misses.

  • Corinne attempts to cast Winter’s Grasp again, succeeds this time. He’s a little chilly.

  • He keeps running, but slower this time.

  • Astrid shoots her bow again, missing a third time.

  • Lorenzo runs forward, tackling him successfully.

  • Harrett runs over and helps Lorenzo restrain him, putting her blade at his throat.

  • Corinne calls Assara over. Assara doesn’t believe any of Corinne’s shit.

  • Assara – who’re the Carta after?

  • Corinne – who’re the Carta?

  • Assara has her answer. What’d you do?

  • Corinne senses she’s been caught. She sighs, what didn’t I do?

  • Corinne puts a hand on Assara’s arm. Maybe we shouldn’t kill him, maybe we can make a deal

  • That’s probably what got you in trouble in the first place.

  • Corinne pulls her aside. We need their lyrium.

  • They can’t know where we’re going.

  • Corinne looks at Astrid, covered in blood. I don’t think they’re going to follow us.

  • How much do you owe them.

  • Corinne names a high number. Assara whistles

  • Lyrium is expensive.

  • Assara takes out the bag Finch gave her and rifles around in it. She tosses it to the dwarf. You’ll get paid, don’t follow us. Points at Astrid, still covered in blood.

  • We let the dwarf go.

  • Assara – we can’t stay here tonight. We have to get back on the road ASAP.

  • Harrett goes off to find her hammer. Everyone helps, but it still takes us upwards of 15 minutes.

  • She also makes sure to go back and get her horse.

  • Assara keeps the caravan moving through the night.

  • We rest and get some sleep.

  • The next morning, we’ve all gotten an adequate amount of rest.

  • The weather has cleared a bit, the roads are less awful.

  • Astrid sends Saga out to scout ahead. Saga sees through space and time. She flies over to a specific area and starts circling.

  • Astrid goes over to investigate, and Corinne follows. She starts hearing a terrible sound, like a dying goat. Pained bleating noise.

  • When they get into the clearing, they see a halla. It is very big, it is on the ground, and it is injured. It has bright, gleaming, golden fur.

  • Astrid tries to calm it. It’s a little wary, but it doesn’t fight her.

  • Corinne casts some healing magics on it. It starts looking a little bit better, not as much as she hoped, but it’s calming down. Not making the same awful noises.

  • When they get closer, they see that it has a bit in its mouth.

  • Astrid’s not sure what attacked the halla, but it was an animal, and it was big.

  • She sends Saga out to look for the creature, but she doesn’t see anything.

  • They’re in the clearing and they don’t see anything, but after a few minutes, they get a “something’s watching me” feeling.

  • They look up, and see people creeping around in the trees. Melting out of the trees. They look like Dalish hunters.

  • Astrid tells them that they were helping the halla. They can see that.

  • It seems like it was attacked by a big animal.

  • Lorenzo goes to check on them. Harrett didn’t notice they were gone.

  • About the same time Lorenzo arrives, another person does to. Tell them to stand down, calm down. They walk up to the halla. There are wisps of bright fog surrounding them, spirit-like.

  • They lay a hand on the halla, and the halla is completely healed.

  • The newcomers looks between Astrid and Corinne and says thank you for helping. What are you doing in this forest.

  • Astrid says, just passing through.

  • Where’re you headed?

  • North.

  • Corinne is keeping her mouth shut.

  • Astrid mentions meeting some Dalish before. “I have no beef with you lowlanders.”

  • Are you with the people who came through here a few days ago?

  • Nope, it’s just us. No one ahead of us.

  • Corinne facepalms, yes we are with that other group.

  • Astrid – we are?

  • That’s a lot of supplies, what’re you planning on doing?

  • Astrid – I didn’t even know there were people ahead of us.

  • Corinne – didn’t you come with one of them?

  • Astrid gasps and says Imira under her breath.

  • Lorenzo stands there and lets them bury themselves talking.

  • Corinne explains her sexual history with Rhonan to the Dalish.

  • She gets a slack-jawed “oh my god” expression back.

  • Corinne ends it with “and then my ex shows up, and I thought I shouldn’t sleep with Rhonan anymore, what do you think?”

  • They think Corinne may have bigger problems than Rhonan or the dwarves.

  • You only say that because you haven’t met Rhonan.

  • Astrid agrees.

  • Corinne lights up, we’re going on a journey to find ourselves, that’s what this is about!

  • With 12 carts?

  • We’ll need it, it’ll take a while for Corinne to find herself.

  • The Dalish kind of believe it.

  • Corinne’s sitting cross-legged in the grass, like “I dunno guys.”

  • Astrid offers the halla an apple, and it appreciates this gesture. The elves approve as well.

  • Kari eventually shows up. The elves let her past. She greets the lead elf, Seris.

  • They awkwardly hug. Seris asks Kari what in the world is going on. This crazy mage..

  • Woah woah, I’m not a mage! This is a stylish walking stick, we’re out in nature, I’m clumsy!

  • Seris is unconvinced.

  • Seris asks Kari is we’re going to the Old Tower, as she suspects. She saw a bunch of people rush through here on horseback, and had some elves follow them.

  • Kari, out of earshot, confirms this. The Old Tower was an abandoned mage tower.

  • Seris is part of her old clan, which is responsible for protecting this area for generations.

  • Harrett is chilling with her horse, oblivious to all of this.

  • Seris is fairly displeased, starts getting on Kari’s case. Why did you bring these people here? Not a place for humans, it’s dangerous, you shouldn’t be leading people here.

  • Kari shrinks down, you don’t understand, we’re going to fix it.

  • Not possible, it’s been a scar on the land for hundreds of years, it’s evil, no good comes from there.

  • Kari – if there’s anyone who can fix it, it’s her. You should come help, this is a worthy cause. We shouldn’t be doing it without you.

  • Seris – she can’t go with you, there’s something out in the woods that has been hurting the halla. She’s been traveling with this group of hunters for a week now, think they’ve found where the beast is coming from. Lost several archers, went back to the camp to get reinforcements and stumbled upon all of us.

  • Corinne and Astrid volunteer to help kill the beast.

  • Seris considers this. Nods, it’s important that we get this done. I want to speak to this leader of yours. If you help me with this problem, I’ll speak with your leader and perhaps help cleanse the tower.

  • There’s a cave to the north, in the direction we’re already going.

  • She’ll lead them to it if they’re willing. They are.

  • (They went back to get Harrett)

  • Seris leads them to the mouth of a cave. Outside are huge horrible spiderwebs. There’s a large gross-looking cocoon.

  • Harrett goes forward and examines the cocoon. It’s wriggling. She cuts it open and finds a Dalish archer inside. He’s really scared, they got us, they’re still inside.

  • Harrett heads into the cave, getting covered in spider webs. Walks into a wall first.

  • We expected it to be darker. But once we get past the entrance, we notice the inside is lit by an eerie blue glow, aquatic feeling. Lots and lots of spiders here, tiny, covering the ground.

  • We find another cocoon and Harrett cuts it open. A bunch of spiders jump out and onto our faces.

  • A puppy-sized spider leaps on Harrett’s face and attempts to bite her, but her head is too hard.

  • The same happens to Astrid, but it also doesn’t do any damage.

  • A third spider jumps on Corinne and bites her successfully.

  • Harrett is deeply unsettled, Corinne is screaming, Astrid is okay.

  • Harrett freezes.

  • Lorenzo stabs at the spider on Astrid’s face. Does a good chunk of damage without hurting Astrid.

  • The spider on Corinne bites her hard. Astrid’s spider tries to bite her, but fails. Harrett’s spider bites her twice, but does no damage.

  • Corinne hits the spider on her face with her staff.

  • Astrid swings at the spider on Corinne’s face. She bats it off her face and into the wall. It’s dead. She swings at the one on her own face, killing it. She hits herself in the face a little bit.

  • Lorenzo tries to sneak up on the spider on Harrett’s face, but fails. He hits it regular-style.

  • Harrett grabs the spider on her face and pulls it off. She puts it against the wall and with a mighty swing, smashes it with her hammer, killing it.

  • The corpse falls to the floor and the tiny spiders swarm over it.

  • We keep exploring and find more cocoons. Astrid opens one carefully and some spiders swarm out. Not onto our faces this time.

  • Astrid swings at one of the spiders, almost killing it.

  • Lorenzo finally is successful in a sneak attack against his spider. He chops most of its legs off.

  • From behind him, Lorenzo hears muffled yelling.

  • Harrett steps forward and deftly kills both spiders.

  • Lorenzo follows the yelling and slices open another cocoon. Find another Dalish elf who’s not looking so good. Weeze, a little blue-ish. Lorenzo carries him to the entrance of the cave and Corinne is jealous.

  • We move on. Astrid listens to another cocoon, hears skittering. She hits the cocoon really hard. Everything inside it dies. Three spiders are reduced to goop. Corinne swoons.

  • Astrid opens another cocoon, three spiders jump out. Astrid obliterates one of them.

  • Lorenzo successfully sneak attacks another spider, barely hitting it. He hurts it rather significantly.

  • Harrett swings at a spider too, doing a good chunk.

  • A spider tries to bite Astrid and does no damage.

  • Corinne fires an arcane lance, killing one of the spiders.

  • Astrid finishes off the last spider.

  • She hears muffled yelling, cuts another Dalish free. He’s doing pretty bad and Harrett carries him to the cave entrance.

  • Astrid cuts another Dalish free, he’s mostly unconscious. Harrett carries him out.

  • Astrid smooshes the contents of the last cocoon in the room.

  • Harrett cuts through the spider web blocking the entrance.

  • Shockingly, there’s a giant spider on the other side. It jumps on Harrett.

  • It bites her and poisons her, then knocks her back into the wall and she falls prone.

  • Corinne tries to heal Harrett, but fails.

  • The spider spits a web at Harrett, and she is webbed to the floor.

  • Astrid moves forward and tries to hit it, but she misses.

  • Harrett mightily rips out of the webbing, jumping to her feet.

  • Lorenzo sneaks up on the spider, getting a good hit.

  • Corinne heals Harrett, curing her poisoning.

  • She also shoots out an arcane bolt, taking out a chunk of health.

  • The spider bites Astrid.

  • Astrid tries to retaliate but misses.

  • Harrett swings at it twice, hitting hard.

  • Lorenzo leaps up, stabs his sword into the spider’s eye, twists the blade and kills it.

  • Harrett and Astrid examine the cocoons and determine that they are indeed cocoons.

  • Astrid cuts one open and spiders come swarming out. Each are as big as an outstretched hand.

  • The spiders swarm Astrid, but Lorenzo manages to back up out of it.

  • Corinne tries to electrify the swarm. She manages to electrify Astrid.

  • Lorenzo slashes at the swarm, taking out three of the spiders.

  • Corinne shocks the swarm again, successfully this time, and fries a bunch of spiders.

  • Astrid manages to run out of the swarm to avoid the electricity.

  • Astrid swings her maul at the swarm, smooshing a bunch of them.

  • Harrett takes out a single spider.

  • The swarm moves, enveloping us, biting at us.

  • We all manage to get out of the swarm, but it’s getting bigger.

  • Lorenzo slashes at the spiders, slicing one in half.

  • Corinne fries the last of the spiders. All the spiders are smoldering and dead and stinky.

  • Astrid carefully cuts another cocoon open, there’s a Dalish elf not breathing. Corinne pushes everyone out of the way, magically healing him. He gasps in her arms and sees her and kisses her on the mouth.

  • Astrid asks the Dalish guy how many of them there were, but he’s out of it and making out with Corinne.

  • She cuts open the last cocoon and a halla bursts out, running to the entrance.

  • Lorenzo realizes that the source of the creepy light is some stones on the wall.

  • Harrett knows that spider venom sells for a decent amount and can be used to make a poison.

  • The stones remind Corinne of something the Tranquil can make, like magic glow sticks.

  • No magically energy.

  • Corinne lets us know, then goes back to making out with the elf.

  • Harrett starts destroying the venom, until they convince her not to. Instead, she collects five vials worth of venom.

  • We each take glowstones, which last varying amounts of months.

  • We make it out of the cave

  • Corinne tells Seris that she solved her Rhonan problem, and the elf she made out with does finger-guns and a wink.

  • Corinne still can’t afford Lorenzo.

  • Astrid pats Corinne’s shoulder, and Corinne gives her a big hug. Her hands wander a bit.

  • Her hug had healing powers

  • <meta />We all level up again!

  • Corinne and Rhonan flirt, much to Larken’s dismay.

  • Now that we’re all there, the Warden calls the A Team together.

  • Don’t tell anyone -> All the Grey Wardens have disappeared, she believes they’re being controlled by the big evil darkspawn.

  • Many attempts to get in touch with Warden leadership and failed

  • Instead of fighting the big evil darkspawn, we’re fighting the Blight

  • She knows where the archdemons are, she has located a base with an entrance to the deep roads

  • Team of researchers looking into curing the Blight

  • Need a sample of the disease, which is underground

  • 1) Cure the Blight if you can

  • 2) Kill as many Darkspawn as you can

  • 3) Kill all the archdemons if you can

  • The base she has procured, great building, lovely mountain view

  • Abandoned for 100 years, filled with monsters

  • A Team is going to ride straight there, to clear out monsters

  • B Team follows with supplies

  • This is a secret base, be discrete

  • A Team gets together first thing in the morning, leaves on horseback

  • B Team gathers everything, heads out with the caravans

  • Beautiful day, everything’s going good

  • Immediately attacked by bandits

  • A bandit shoots a crossbow at Lindel, it fires daggers.

  • Another bandit shoots at Harrett, hitting her hard.

  • Harrett runs over to a bandit and hits him twice with her forge hammer, killing him deftly.

  • Astrid strikes at a bandit, bloodying him.

  • Corinne shoots arcane lances at bandits.

  • Rhonan misses.

  • Lindel shoots an arrow, killing the bandit Astrid was fighting.

  • A bandit runs over and strikes Harrett.

  • Another bandit hits Astrid.

  • Lorenzo tries to run sneakily over to the bandit Harrett is fighting, but the bandit sees Lorenzo.

  • Lindel shoots another arrow, but misses.

  • Another bandit appears and shoots at Rhonan, and another shoots at Astrid.

  • Harrett swings at her foe, taking him down too, and takes up a defensive stance.

  • Astrid hit her bandit

  • Lorenzo sneaks up to Astrid bandits and backstabs him.

  • Corinne launches an arcane lance at the bandit that attacked Ronan, but misses him. She doesn’t care that much.

  • Lindel fires an arrow, hitting a vulnerable weak point and killing the bandit.

  • Rhonan steps up and shoots an arcane lance, killing his bandit. He fires off another one immediately, taking out another bandit.

  • One last bandit and the bandit leader appears.

  • Bandit thug attacks Lorenzo, taking a chunk out of him.

  • The bandit leader attacks Harrett, hitting her really hard twice.

  • Corinne heals Harrett

  • Lindel misses with his bow.

  • Astrid hits her bandit

  • Lorenzo runs back over to the bandit leader, but she sees him coming. He hits her, doing minimal damage.

  • Another bandit (who was previously peeing behind a tree) runs over to attack Lorenzo.

  • Harrett swings her hammer, hitting the bandit leader hard and taking her down to half health

  • Rhonan shoots a powerful arcane lance and takes out the bandit leader.

  • Lorenzo gets hit, runs away to sneak attack the other bandit, but he misses.

  • Astrid also misses

  • Corinne shoots an arcane lance at one of the remaining bandits, almost bringing him down. She shouts out a taunt, distracting him.

  • Lindel shoots an arrow, but misses.

  • Bandit runs up to Harrett and bounces his maul off her stomach. She brings her hammer down on him, killing him.

  • Astrid takes out the final bandit.

  • Harrett sets about moving the bodies out of the road.

  • There was a log across the road, and Harrett moves it easily.

  • Corinne continues yelling encouragement(?)

  • Corinne and Rhonan run off to have sex in the bushes.

  • The rest of us take a breather.

  • Nathanial and Assara get everyone calmed down and patched up.

  • We continue on.

  • Nice and warm. Clear and bright and sunny. Road to ourselves.

  • After the initial bandit attack, Assara and Nathaniel are on high alert

  • Assara scouts ahead, Nathaniel makes circuits around the caravan.

  • Assara pushes us to keep moving until sunset.

  • At sunset, we circle our wagons and unload the caravans. Set up camp.

  • Astrid goes to check on her falcons. Cooper is there, making small happy bird noises at them. Like he’s chatting with them.

  • Doesn’t notice Astrid. She says hello happily, startling him.

  • He’s embarrassed, but says hello. He’s never seen pet falcons before and thinks they’re cool.

  • Astrid is delighted and starts introducing them by name.

  • Cooper is happy, nodding along.

  • The dogs wander over

  • Astrid, you don’t use the dogs and birds hunting?

  • Cooper wants to try

  • Finch has been complaining about the food for weeks. Cooper asks Astrid if she wants to go hunting and she says an enthusiastic yes.

  • Calls over the dogs. They’re super obedient. Sit in a line while they’re introduced.

  • Astrid introduces the birds to the dogs. She hasn’t seen mabari before.

  • The mabari seem to understand what she’s saying.

  • Astrid is pretty sure she loves them.

  • Bucket is a bit more dopey and distracted. Slobbers on Astrid.

  • Cooper says, the dogs now know the birds, if the birds spot a deer, the dogs should be able to follow it.

  • How fast can you run?

  • You should probably get a horse.

  • Once Astrid gets her horse, Cooper gathers the dogs. Cooper does not get a horse, he’s gonna run.

  • Not quite as fast as your horse, but I’ve been practicing with Assara and the dogs.

  • Deer yes, halla no. We don’t want to piss off any Dalish elves.

  • The falcon Astrid chooses is Saga. Saga spots a target.

  • It’s dusky evening. Astrid takes off on her horse. Cooper and the dogs run along side.

  • After about ten minutes, the dogs fan out in front. Saga is circling over a spot. Cooper and the dogs disappear into the woods.

  • Cooper points where he thinks the deer is going to be and indicates that she should take the first shot.

  • Astrid spots the deer and sneaks up on it. She looses an arrow, getting an excellent.

  • Cooper appears and tackles the deer. He hacks at it with his axe.

  • The deer lands a kick on Cooper and he rolls away.

  • Astrid takes another shot with her bow, taking down the deer.

  • Cooper immediately sets to cleaning the deer.

  • The dogs are disappointed that they didn’t get to help.

  • Cooper handily dismembers the deer, gives the entrails to the dogs, and gives Astrid a bloody high fives. Wipes his hand on his shirt first.

  • Finch is extremely happy to have something decent to cook, but bitches and moans about having to cook it over a campfire.

  • While they were gone, Zady and Zenna are bickering about the best way to build a fire. They spend a good half hour arguing. It’s obvious that they’ve had this argument before.

  • Eventually, Evangeline goes over to Rhonan’s tent, asking him to help them. He’s busy having sex with Corinne, so she waits.

  • Rhonan shoots an arcane lance at the very well-made firepit, setting it on ablaze.

  • Once the fire is lit, Evangeline gets a thoughtful scheming look on her face.

  • You’re good with fire, right?

  • I’m good at most things.

  • Could you help me with something? (more quietly) I want to try something out.

  • Rhonan is torn cause he promised he’d go back to Corinne, but she’s passed out.

  • Evangeline pulls out a wooden crate, obviously very heavy. Leads Rhonan into a little clearing.

  • I was in the lab, and I was trying to make…it doesn’t matter, it didn’t work..but I made these.

  • Pulls out small glass jar

  • Slippery if you break it, wants to know what would happen if you broke it with fire.

  • Zenna has been trying to get this crate from her for weeks.

  • Rhonan is SO DOWN.

  • Evangeline, I’m going to take one and toss it into the air. You’re going to hit it with fire and see what happens.

  • She goes to the other side of the clearing, shot-puts a jar. Rhonan misses.

  • Throws another one and BOOSH, fire in the sky, raining down, with broken glass.

  • E: WOO IT WORKED

  • R: YES, arms up in the air

  • E: okay okay okay, but what if we used more fire

  • R: more fire is never a bad thing

  • E: wait wait, you can do fire spells, right?

  • E: if it gives a bigger boom, we’re going to be in the blast radius

  • Puts the glass jar in the middle of the clearing and backs way away

  • Rhonan casts Flame Blast and suddenly there’s a crater in the middle of the clearing, BOOM

  • Everyone knows what they’re doing now.

  • Rhonan and Corinne don’t know each other’s names.

  • Rhonan thinks this trip is the best thing that ever happened to him.

  • There’s a small fire, but Evangeline runs over and waves her hands at it. Frost freezes the fire in place and it crumbles.

  • Evangeline winks, Don’t tell.

  • As soon as the fire is out, Zenna marches over, swearing, takes the crate and walks back out. No, no, bad.

  • R: What was her problem?

  • E: Explosions, she doesn’t like them

  • Evangeline is already distracted, thinking of uses for this substance. She wanders away.

  • Rhonan is in love.

  • Lindel is looking for Assara. He finds her. Clings to her sleeve a little bit.

  • Are you alright, cousin?

  • I killed a man

  • You’ve killed lots of people

  • We’ve killed lots of people together

  • That’s not helping

  • They had families, they were talking about their sons and daughters that they needed to feed

  • This is really bothering you, huh? Anything I can do?

  • Not sure. Hold me.

  • Awkwardly puts her arms around him, pats his back

  • He clings to her, she looks around for help

  • She picks him up, carries him over to the fire and sets him down. Rubs his back gently.

  • She gently wipes his single tear away.

  • Lindel is now sitting and not clinging

  • Assara’s still awkwardly patting him (looking for an escape route)

  • Assara attempts to give him a pep talk

  • Sometimes people make bad decisions. The bandits attacking us was a bad decision on their part

  • THEIR FAMILIES, COUSIN.

  • Assara is sweating, I’m going to get you some food, that’ll help

  • Assara books it away, BYE

  • A few minutes later, Kari comes and sits down next to Lindel.

  • Lindel is wiping at his eyes.

  • She picks up a stick and starts poking at the fire.

  • Eventually, K: that was pretty awful today

  • L: Yeah, we killed their fathers, the poor children D:

  • Kari nods, kinda upset also

  • Kari looks over at Assara, looks over at Lindel

  • Is she really your cousin?

  • Yeah i think so

  • How long have you been away from your clan

  • I dunno, I’m bad at math

  • Kari: you are Dalish though, right? You have a clan?

  • Lindel touches his face, at where his unfinished tattoos are.

  • Kari’s eyes go wide, she pulls back her hair, she has a similar unfinished tattoo. Tiny dot by her ear

  • It hurt, right?

  • Kari’s quiet for a minute, is that why you left? You couldn’t get your tattoos done? That’s why I had to leave. It’s been years, I miss them.

  • I have my cousin, she loves me.

  • Kari looks over again. She’s Dalish too?

  • In a way

  • You know what always makes me feel better though?

  • She gets up and leaves for a second. Comes back with a guitar. Starts quietly playing a little song. Sings in elven. Lindel hasn’t heard in a long time, but a song Lindel recognizes.

  • Lindel starts crying again, happy tears.

  • She’s just playing a little Dalish lullaby

  • Lindel wishes Assara would do that, instead of giving him knock-out drinks

  • Eventually Assara returns with roast deer and some green stuff for some elves.

  • She sits down and eats with him and listens to Kari play

  • Lindel shoves himself under her arm and cuddles her

  • C’mon cousin, let’s get to bed

  • She lets Lindel cling to her for the rest of the night

  • Eventually, one-by-one, we all turn in for the night. We all sleep really well, but in the morning it’s freezing and raining and an awful day. Fog and rain. The wagons are covered, but not a nice day.

  • Astrid is feeling pretty good. But the rest of us would rather go back to sleep.

  • But once Assara disengages herself from Lindel, she goes around and whips everyone into shape, gets the caravan moving again.

  • After half a day, mid afternoon, the roads have gotten really gross, dirt has turned to mud.

  • Talking about turning in for the night. But then, a big crack! One of the axles have split, on one of the wagons.

  • Nathaniel comes to take a look. We definitely can’t leave this stuff alone, or behind. Gotta figure out what to do.

  • Harrett starts working to repair the axle. Gets a chisel and sandpaper. She fells a sapling and starts shaping it.

  • Lorenzo tries to move one of the bags, but strains and drops it.

  • Lindel, Corinne, and Astrid all start moving bags.

  • Rhonan also struggles to move a big bag, doesn’t go well, gets a smaller bag. Spends more time telling everyone what to do. Manages to tell people where the best place to put stuff to not overload carts. Seems like a dick, people don’t really listen.

  • It’s getting pretty late in the afternoon, but Harrett fashions a passable axle and installs it. It moves, not super well. Probably not a lot of weight should be put on it. Harrett moves a bit of stuff back in the cart.

  • The leader decide that we’re going to the nearby town for the evening. We’re all nasty and cold and miserable. Still raining and foggy. Mud up to our ankles. Harrett is struggling a bit.

  • We get to the town, stop a decent ways out to be more low-key.

  • Nathaniel tells us to go find an inn, some of the crew will stay behind to guard the caravan.

  • Don’t start fights or start fires. Just STOP for the night. Here’s some money, get a room.

  • Harrett wants to stable her horse. A small dog runs up to her and starts barking, all happy that she exists.

  • Takes her a while to notice.

  • She asks him what he wants, lets him sniff/lick her hand

  • Assara comes over, Bucket calm down

  • He’s usually better behaved.

  • Harrett asks if he’s her dog

  • A: Kind of?

  • Studies Harrett

  • I think he thinks you look like someone else

  • Not many people look like me

  • That’s true…

  • Bucket is so happy and dopey

  • Finch shows up.

  • Hey ladies, how you doing?

  • Points at Harrett

  • We’re short on supplies. Come with me to get some in town?

  • Harrett is concerned about her horse, but he says she can stable it in town.

  • Walk to town together, and stable her horse for a decent price.

  • Finch is in a good mood, highly caffeinated

  • Oh you’re new here, you don’t know anybody, here’s what’s going on.

  • He talks and talks, and she listens intently, nodding along.

  • Light gossip -> juicy gossip.

  • Make it to the center of town, find a fountain. Less shitty than expected.

  • Finch sits down, points up at the sky, isn’t it a beautiful evening?

  • Harrett looks up as a courtesy, but she doesn’t see anything.

  • (Later I find out that Finch was collecting a note from the fountain, with a list of the most unscrupulous merchants in town)

  • Finch: you’re not from here, I know some people

  • A couple really good merchants, we should go buy supplies. The expedition is paying.

  • They go into a store.

  • Finch greets everyone happily. Evening!

  • The shopkeeper is a little uncomfortable. Huge black woman and a tiny elf in his shop.

  • It’s a general store. Finch tells Harrett to get whatever she wants.

  • Harrett goes still, staring at the shelves and going over the items in her head.

  • She is incredibly intimidating. Finches uses her as a distraction to pull a short change scheme on the shopkeeper (she doesn’t notice at all). He chats up the shopkeeper, who keeps looking over at Harrett, super nervous.

  • Every once in a while, Harrett barks out an item and the shopkeeper shakily points to where it is on the shelf.

  • Finally Finch finishes and tells Harrett they should go.

  • As they walk away, Harrett remembers she should get a real axle, goes and buys one quickly.

  • They stop at the fountain again on the way back. Finch tosses gold coins in one-by-one.

  • Harrett doesn’t ask why, assumes he has his reasons.

  • When they get back to the caravan, Assara storms over, “FINCH.”

  • He smiles and gives her the coin pouch, saying that they got supplies and here’s the extra money. It’s more than Assara had before. He also gives Assara a chocolate. She takes it and tells him to never speak of this again.

  • Harrett questions him about the legality about what just happened. He says it’s fine and gives her a chocolate and runs off to the bar.

  • Harrett questions Assara, who also says it’s fine. Harrett is satisfied.

  • She lays out her new tarp under the broken wagon, lights her new lantern, and sets about replacing the axle in the rain.

  • Everyone else goes to the bar/tavern/inn.

  • After a little while, Lorenzo notices that Molly is staring at him. Like “can I take you in a fight?”

  • So like, you know how to handle a sword right?

  • You could say that

  • She stops, no I mean like, oh god. Second time tonight I’ve done this to someone. I asked the waitresses for a taste of her pie

  • Did you give it to you?

  • Actually, takes out pie, cuts a piece, and feeds it him

  • Most delicious piece of pie he’s ever tasted

  • I didn’t believe it, but the pie here is world-famous.

  • I want you to help me steal the recipe

  • Oh okay

  • Will you do this thing?

  • Sure, when you said sword, I expected something else

  • She waves her hand, don’t worry about it.

  • Not sure how they’ll steal it.

  • She’s pretty sure the cook is in the kitchen in the back.

  • She heard from the waitress, who’s very cute, that he keeps his recipe book in the worktable.

  • Do you know what he’s into?

  • Man, I just got here

  • A little on the older side, kinda handsome, silver fox?

  • Lorenzo looks at the waitress and she’s ready to eat out of his hand. Most handsome man who’s been in this town in a while.

  • He’s not wearing a lot.

  • She absolutely lets him back into the kitchen, doesn’t even ask why

  • If you wait in the pantry, I’ll be back in like five minutes.

  • In the kitchen, cook is cooking.

  • Lorenzo scopes the place out.

  • Sees the worktable, but the cook is in front of it.

  • Way out back, pantry, way back to the bar.

  • The cook is muttering about pie crust.

  • The cook notices that Lorenzo is there and asks what he’s doing in his kitchen

  • I was looking for you

  • Me, why?

  • I heard there was a silver fox back here, didn’t think he should be alone

  • He blushes, and is kinda angry, mutters the waitresses name.

  • Lorenzo approaches the worktable. Starts chatting up the cook.

  • What’re you making? Can I help? I have great hands.

  • He stutters, looks at the pie crust, looks at him. Y-yeah, sure?

  • You’re welcome to touch my dough any time.

  • Lorenzo leans on the counter really sensually. Ass in the air, starts playing with the dough.

  • The cook is gone, just staring.

  • There’s a book under the worktable, a pretty hefty book.

  • Lorenzo signels Molly and she starts singing loudly and drunkedly and starts knocking stuff over.

  • Corinne joins in automatically, runs over, puts an arm around Molly, starts singing the song she doesn’t know.

  • Lorenzo: wow that ruins the mood

  • Cook: dammit, I told her not to break out the good stuff.

  • Goes off to break things up.

  • Lorenzo takes the book and runs out the back

  • Molly gets kicked out and Corinne doesn’t cause she takes a swing at the cook

  • Meets Lorenzo out in the alley

  • Didja get it?

  • There was only one book, here you go

  • Molly looks and squeals, this is it. She’s super excited.

  • They book it. Forgot about the waitress.

  • Corinne is drunk at the bar. As far as she knows, everyone here is her friend, everything is good, there are no templars, she’s gotten laid a lot.

  • After a little while, Remy comes over. She’s seen him flirting with people, first time with her.

  • He leans in, eyelashes, boobs on the counter. He says, there’s a dwarf staring at you.

  • All dwarves should stare at me, I’m great

  • No like he’s been staring at you since you came inside

  • Like he wants to fight me?

  • Kinda? You shouldn’t though

  • OH NO, it clicks, she falls off the stool

  • He catches her, pulls her to her feet, do you need to leave?

  • Yeah I need to go

  • Your place or mine?

  • I think you need to go to bed

  • I think WE need to go to bed

  • Okay…are you worried about this shady dwarf though?

  • No no, it’s fine, I’m sure he’s an old friend.

  • You want to leave and not talk to him?

  • Definitely want to leave

  • Hefts her up, arm around the shoulder, supporting her entire weight

  • Stops him when they get outside, do I know you?

  • I’m with the caravan

  • Oh okay good

  • He makes some motions to some people as he’s carrying her out. Maybe notice Zady and Zenna going to have a chat with the dwarf.

  • But he’s pretty sure she needs to get back to the caravan and let someone know about the shady dwarf following her

  • Nah, it’s fine

  • Hear a crash, and a scream from inside

  • Nevermind we need to go back in

  • I didn’t want to do this drunk

  • R: me either

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
